I don't know that candukid was completely misunderstanding you. I like to think you're beyond the hyperbole that was in your post to which he responded. And, while I'm not espousing communism, your example of such is extreme. More talented and hard-working people, even in communist cultures often receive greater rewards and opportunities. And, contrary to your statement about fostering a discussion the post he replied to was not one that'd do such.

Regardless, must "reward" be monetary? Just because our society is capitalist? Me thinks not.

professor I guess I was using hyperbole to explain a "slippery slope" argument about government-funded health care. If we were in a room soaking to each other it would not have come off the way it obviously did.
I apologize. It was not my intention to inflame people, not was it my intention to imply that nobody should ever pay for things that others enjoy.
Having said that, I do think that the concept is at least somewhat antithetical to the ethos of many Americans, and further that there does come a point where the government takes too much of the wage-earner's money. I'm already north of 40%.

For instance, do you not think that we "liberals" might function within a range of 'liberalism' - some more liberal than other liberals? Or are you comfortable in being considered a far right wing, tea-bagger, kook? Perhaps the dialog goes a bit better with a few less F-bombs and dismissive, conversation-ending declarations?

I don't mind perspectives from folks who come from other countries or cultures. FGI used to have those members. Beyond that, candukid gave you a substantial and rational reply as to his and their vested interest.

Chad, do you get out much? Would you consider yourself a man of the world? Hang out at ballparks, gyms, bars etc? I'm asking seriously. I hear much the same on a daily basis, not only at those places that I used to frequent frequently, but in the workplace as well. Very rarely do I involve myself in those conversations, believe it or not, just not how I was raised, but I can guarantee you 1 thing, I'm not gonna get my tighty whiteys in a wad because of it. I know plenty of "stand up" guys who do partake. IT IS "Locker room talk"/ guys being guys and I mean lawyers, cops, ATF agents, bailiffs, judges, businessmen etc, etc. Back in my younger days, those were the "after work" crowd I drank and hung out with when I lived in South Florida. They came to my place of business/home to talk that talk and consume free alcohol provided by my boss(I lived in the same building I worked 86-87). We were 1 of the largest firearms dealers in South Florida. I'd venture to say that it was MUCH WORSE than what I heard on that tape. Hopefully you're not shocked by this. 😉

Medicare is not currently 100% self funded. Part D is and was always unfunded, Part B is partially unfunded, est about 25%. Also about 10% of the people on Medicare are under the age of 65.

Medicare is about 15 to 17% of the Federal Budget.

What don't you get? Medicare is a single payer healthcare system for people over 65. It's a form of socialism. rsvman said he didn't want to pay for other peoples healthcare. My response was we already have a single payer healthcare system called Medicare for people over 65. Where OTHER people pay into the system to pay for healthcare.

Sneakylong I don't think anybody is arguing that that would constitute sexual assault. What people are wondering is whether he actually did any of those things, or whether it is just his ego talking to make himself sound "good" to somebody else.

Everybody knows that he's an enormous egomaniac and everybody knows that he lies a lot. That's a recipe for making up stories like that. Is it crude and undignified to talk like that? Yes. But it's only sexual assault if he actually did it. I think that's the only question.

I tend not to criticize Trump the way many liberals do as this is exactly what he wants, the names, the mental health diagnosis, racist, etc. It simply emboldens many of the folks that support him, many are sick of being told what they are or aren't. IMO they need to stfu and let the folks who align with him policy wise, do the criticizing, as it's not likely to stop. It's as if Trump supporters think he's above reproach! It's laughable.

If you look back, you said "fucking liberals", I didn't. I don't "hate" liberals, I can't understand the far left. I'm married to a liberal/democrat, we don't talk politics much at all. I have liberal friends (some, not many) who don't call our president everything, but a white man and we get along just fine. I don't believe I ever referred to the last guy in that fashion, I actually rooted for him the 1st 4 years. If our President fails, we fail and I certainly don't think President Trump is failing nor do I believe there should be a double standard.
