“ this is the toughest one to swallow because Stenson effectively admitted that the money – a reported $40 million up front – is worth more than his legacy and the prestige of being captain for the one event where money is never the concern.”

Don’t know how it would be tough to swallow. $40 million is worth way more than any association anyone could have with the Ryder Cup. 😃

Not sure they all feel that way. Money comes and goes, but legacies last forever.

Nobody remembers how much money athletes made in the long run. It’s all relative to the time they lived in. But they know how many championships etc. they won.

PGA Tour players are remembered for Majors primarily, tournaments won and Ryder Cup records are talked about as well.

If you read the article Stenson was a victim of a ponzi scheme by his sponsor Stanford Financial back in 2009. So he may have been an easy target.

I was kidding. There has been some compelling viewing in majors this year. I actually kind of enjoyed watching the most recent LIV event.

Sneakylong Yeah, that’s what I meant. The Majors have been compelling viewing.

Without a doubt! My other comment was my way of saying that the politics and other issues regarding these two parties is way more prominent in the media than their own events.

Sneakylong I am not talking about the political crap.

Keep lying to yourself if you think the Ryder Cup was never about money. It is where it is today because it was made into a spectacle for money. If you want to see pure sport golf go watch an amateur event.

Thank you for correcting me on the virtue signaling. I am a bit foggy at the moment. You are much more intelligent than most of the posters in this thread, so I appreciate your correction. You are so smart in some ways, but so obtuse in others. I am grateful for my simple mind for it allows me to understand simple things. Unfortunately, people with your intelligence never get to receive this blessing.

The only legacy I need to worry about is the one looking back at me in the mirror.

          Sneakylong legacies last forever.

Nobody but his family will remember him for more than a year or two after he dies unless he does something to change the world between now and then. He’s a golfer and that is his legacy. He’ll appear in lists of major champions when people look that up and that will be his enduring legacy. Nobody in the future will care to remember what he did or didn’t do for the Ryder Cup. His golf legacy is valued at $40 mil. Nobody made him a counter offer for his humanitarian legacy.

Brian Barnes once beat Jack Nicklaus twice in one day in Ryder Cup competition. Some old Ryder Cup fans and older fans of European golf might remember him. I doubt any casual golfer under 40 has any idea who he was. He has a fine legacy that will very quickly be forgotten by the world.

Scotty S. will be interested to know that he is now not the #1 player in the world. 🙄

Eguller Scotty S. will be interested to know that he is now not the #1 player in the world

"World" rankings mean jack shit if it doesn't include all the world tours
              😉

Sneakylong In the past 8 months, I've laughed very little, smiled rarely.

So, a huge Thank You!! for these types of posts.

You really are not such a bad fella. 👍

But, you have made me wonder....... just where does my pension come from. I know what name is on the check, but where does that money actually come from? 🤔😉

johnnydoom $40 million is worth way more than any association anyone could have with the Ryder Cup. 😃

Plus, he's going to 'be in the books' a lot more now, in future history. The legacy has been enhanced.

              Eguller OWGR = official

              LOL
              But is it really?
It's just a made up points system to satisfy the American mantra of "gotta have a Number 1" since there's no real end of season, meaning full playoff? Or is there? Shouldn't the Fedex winner be Number 1?
Scottie is Number 1 on the watered down world tour, that's his legacy.
See how easy it is to minimalize a legacy?
              Show me the money!
              lol

Btw, the Ryder Cup is not a true best against best match, therefore, a watered down legacy.
              😉
