Sneakylong legacies last forever.

Nobody but his family will remember him for more than a year or two after he dies unless he does something to change the world between now and then. He’s a golfer and that is his legacy. He’ll appear in lists of major champions when people look that up and that will be his enduring legacy. Nobody in the future will care to remember what he did or didn’t do for the Ryder Cup. His golf legacy is valued at $40 mil. Nobody made him a counter offer for his humanitarian legacy.

Brian Barnes once beat Jack Nicklaus twice in one day in Ryder Cup competition. Some old Ryder Cup fans and older fans of European golf might remember him. I doubt any casual golfer under 40 has any idea who he was. He has a fine legacy that will very quickly be forgotten by the world.

Scotty S. will be interested to know that he is now not the #1 player in the world. πŸ™„

"World" rankings mean jack shit if it doesn't include all the world tours

Sneakylong In the past 8 months, I've laughed very little, smiled rarely.

So, a huge Thank You!! for these types of posts.

You really are not such a bad fella. πŸ‘

But, you have made me wonder....... just where does my pension come from. I know what name is on the check, but where does that money actually come from? πŸ€”πŸ˜‰

johnnydoom $40 million is worth way more than any association anyone could have with the Ryder Cup. πŸ˜ƒ

Plus, he's going to 'be in the books' a lot more now, in future history. The legacy has been enhanced.

      Eguller OWGR = official

      LOL
      But is it really?
It's just a made up points system to satisfy the American mantra of "gotta have a Number 1" since there's no real end of season, meaning full playoff? Or is there? Shouldn't the Fedex winner be Number 1?
Scottie is Number 1 on the watered down world tour, that's his legacy.
See how easy it is to minimalize a legacy?
      Show me the money!
      lol

Btw, the Ryder Cup is not a true best against best match, therefore, a watered down legacy.

        Sneakylong legacies last forever.

        Thanks for another smile.

Do you really think, 100 years from now, anyone gives a shit about Henrik Stenson, golfer from Sweden? Except his great grands, if even they do?

I really cannot tell you much about Bobby Jones, and I've done a lot of reading in my life, about a lot of things/places/people. He may well be the least important person I've ever read anything about. That's how important 'legacy' is in my mind.

Subsonic go watch an amateur event.

Where can one find something like that, these days?

And I'll bet you thought, again, it's not about money.🀣

Par4QC That's how important 'legacy' is in my mind.

I'm not sure that is the way Tiger, Hogan, Palmer & Nicklaus think about legacy. And, I'll say especially
Hogan with what he had to go through to post that incredible record after the accident. I find it hard to
believe it was about the $$$. The money went away, but he couldn't put a value on his 'legacy'. JMO
            Smile Rex. 😁

Eguller I can tell you my thoughts on Palmer and Nicklaus ,and if you'd think about it, you might agree.
2 of the most conceited people I've ever seen/listened to. So yes, they are all about 'legacy'. When there was no money, they had to think about something. ( you do know they made very little money playing golf, right?) Just from the small bits I've read about Hogan, he strikes me as a similar type person. Tiger....ehhh well....he just knew he was the best, and didn't have to say anything to that affect. But Jack and Arnie....always had to tell you how good they were and what they were doing with their money in the present, with their names attached.

I don't think Henrik falls in with this company to begin with, esp. for 'legacy'. Only in Sweden will he be remembered/revered. His legacy will be within his own country, and it will be a fine one.

Subsonic or maybe a GB golf tourney.
Ain't a damn person/company ever going to pay for any of us to play. Hell, jrock wouldn't even give us a patch to sew on a shirt, most likely!

Last I saw this was a golf forum. Not knowing much about Bobby Jones would be like being in a baseball forum and not knowing much about Babe Ruth.πŸ˜•

Jones was right up their with the top sports stars of the 1920’s. I’ll help you out a little. Lol

And we can agree to disagree on legacy. That’s the only reason people (evidently with the exception of you) know about Bobby Jones.

Jones was the most successful amateur golfer. He was a lawyer and mechanical engineer as well. You do know he was the founder of the Masters.πŸ˜‰

Read about him. Quite a legacy.

Headline in the N.Y. Times on August 20, 1968:

"Touring Golfers Set Up Own Organization and Complete Split With P.G.A.; BREAK TO AFFECT TV, PRIZE MONEY Pros Agree Not to Boycott 10 Major Events Left on Tour Slate This Year"

Seems Professional Golf has been in a similar situation before...The Touring Pros were not happy with the cut of the pie they were receiving and formed their own organization....Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer among the dissidents...
