  • In true Buzzer style, @Moeman and @jamez provided some nice gifts this year.

Moeman got more than 24 sleeves of quality golf balls logo'd for our fallen friends to giveaway to each participant. He also provided monogrammed golf towels for the victors to with with their hats.

Then below, it was Jamez with the self-made (lockdown skillz!) clubhead covers.

    True appreciation for their generosity!

  • Desert Storm Champions for 2022 - @Weirfan and John R with a score card playoff win on their -1 round. Congrats to the winners!

And apologies for making the playoff such a cluster fuck - eyes are getting old! For those not there - they were the winners, then it was @jamez and Mike H, then it was back to Weirfan and John in an epic but embarrassing turn of events 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

  • Thank you to all that were able to attend this year!
I hope everyone enjoyed themselves, and the courses.

MONEY ROUNDS Winners - LeftofLeft and Brandon at -2

(had to go to the 6th playoff hole to take it.)
Second place was JJohnson and @jrock at -2 as well, third place was @CallMeAl and @FauxAmish at -1 (won on the first playoff hole).

    • Was on TV tonight and I forgot how surprised I was by this movie when it came out. I recall seeing previews and thinking yet another Costner movie would suck balls at the time. Turns out it was actually quite good.

      Also - memories with @jamez ...

Being an LA guy he thought Waffle House was a made up place for the movie, so on the Alabama Golf Trail we made a special trip to the home of grease just for him! 😇

Years later on TPC Scottsdale Stadium, sharing a cart with him. Par 5 15th. I laid up and have mere 60 yards to the pin over the water. I proceed to chunk three in a row into the H2O. ""Romes, ball"" I said. He tosses me one and says '"Now stop fucking around and knock it on"' There was no setup, we just defaulted to that scene 🤣🤣

      • Exactly the same for me, only it was 'you know you're still drunk.... when'

It was Desert Storm 10 years ago or so. I was paired with @jamez at Whirlwind and we were getting ready to tee off, when I realized I didn't have my sunglasses. Looked all through my bag and the cart. Came up empty. So we quickly headed back to the van thinking they may have fell off in transit. Almost to the parking lot when someone (Justin?) asked why we were not at the tee. When I said we had to get my sunglasses, he said 'what's wrong with the ones on your head?'

All I could do was look at Jamez and say 'how come you didn't see them on my damned head?!!!' His response - 'dude, I drank more than you did last night' 🤣

          Desert Storm Rules

We abide by USGA rules of play except for…
The 14 club limit. Screw that! Bring all you want. A 'desert club' for those that want to hit off rocks and not mess up their regular beauties, or a driver for every mood you're in (a tip-of-the-hat to Moeman). Whatever it takes.
We do adopt the local 'desert rule'. This means that the desert can be played (optionally) like a lateral hazard. Reminder, this means dropping from where it first entered the desert – NOT the distance at which it came to rest. 1 stroke penalty just like a lateral hazard.
There are no gimmies in stroke play, obviously there are concessions in match play.

          Pace of Play
          • Ball Searches: The USGA ball search time was reduced to three (3) minutes. Please do not take any longer. We have the 'desert rule' in place for your convenience.
          • Picking up: We want to ensure we do not hold up the entire course, so we highly recommend taking advantage of the team format and pickup if you're in trouble and your partner is in good shape. If you're both struggling – well… play it out. Thems the breaks 😊. Good luck!

          Game Explanations
          • Best Ball: Each player plays their own ball and the two-person team score is the better of the two, after handicap is applied. This also means that you can pickup on a hole if your partner is in good shape. I.e., you're on your second penalty drop and your partner is looking at 5 feet for par (unless your partner putts like poo and a four-jack is in play from 5 feet 😉).
          • Match Play: The Kirshner/Baird Memorial Cup is a match play event where you play the other team in your group. The strokes will be the differential off of the low handicap in the group. Like above, in the two-person format you can pickup if your partner is in good shape. In match play you can also concede putts/holes. Each match is worth a point for the team. The closest to pin challenge is a tie breaker should one be needed.
          • Formats: Way back we found out people that come to the desert to play nice courses want to play the courses on their own ball. This means we generally do not play scrambles or games that take a club out of someone's hands (alternate shot, etc.). That doesn’t mean an afternoon format of such is out of the question, but its just not what we do most of the time.

          Years past...

          • A few of us went to San Diego and Palm Springs after Desert Storm in Phoenix. We bucket listed (i.e., spent too much money) on several courses. Its was myself @FauxAmish, @rangerx, and @jamez jet-setting (well, driving a minivan) through southern California.

Torrey Pines South, Coronado, and Maderas in San Diego. Torrey is iconic, Coronado a good muni in a fantastic setting, and Maderas was in the best shape of all the courses we played on this trip - impeccable.

PGA West Nicklaus Tournament, PGA West Stadium, and Silverrock in Palm Springs. Can't miss in Palm Springs - all courses were beautiful!

A lot of Hazy IPAs were drank, usually after golf. But we did indulge after the turn on our second 18 at PGA West even in 110* heat. The cart attendants didn't think I could hear them say "can you believe those idiots are taking beers onto the course".

I quietly put the beer into our cooler and drove to #10 without saying a word to them. Why would I... we are idiots! 😃 😛

CallMeAl and MarkT won with a combined +1 and a birdie on the number 1 handicap hole. They beat the defending champs @Baaab and @leftofleft in the playoff.

              Individual net scores were @CallMeAl with a -4, @jamez with a -3, and @sdandrea1 with a -2. Good shooting by those guys!
