A few of us went to San Diego and Palm Springs after Desert Storm in Phoenix. We bucket listed (i.e., spent too much money) on several courses. Its was myself @FauxAmish, @rangerx, and @jamez jet-setting (well, driving a minivan) through southern California.

Torrey Pines South, Coronado, and Maderas in San Diego. Torrey is iconic, Coronado a good muni in a fantastic setting, and Maderas was in the best shape of all the courses we played on this trip - impeccable.

PGA West Nicklaus Tournament, PGA West Stadium, and Silverrock in Palm Springs. Can't miss in Palm Springs - all courses were beautiful!

A lot of Hazy IPAs were drank, usually after golf. But we did indulge after the turn on our second 18 at PGA West even in 110* heat. The cart attendants didn't think I could hear them say "can you believe those idiots are taking beers onto the course".

I quietly put the beer into our cooler and drove to #10 without saying a word to them. Why would I... we are idiots! 😃 😛

Sounds like a fun side trip!

I live about 40 miles north of Torrey Pines. But I haven't played there in 20 years. I probably played there 20 times in the 5 years prior to that though, as SoCal residents got decent rates. But in the early 00s, San Diego did away with the discounts for anyone except SD residents. I'm sure that made the city a ton of money over the years as those courses are still packed.

I really felt bad for a friend who lives in Del Mar. About 2 miles from the course, but he doesn't get SD resident rates. He finally bought a small condo in SD and rents it out, but uses the address as his to get SD rates atTorrey.

Torrey Pines is one tough golf course if you don't hit the fairways. Of course that was my luck that day. That rough is murder.
Great trip. Just got home about 11:30 pm.

    Nice!
    No hang gliders?
No goats on the tee boxes?
    lol

I believe the hang gliders were hampered by the smoke from the wildfires. I know they usually are viewable from the 3rd and we didn't see any on the day.

Goats (rams) are usually at Silverrock, but they put up fencing a few years ago after they got into traffic and caused quite the incident. They do not get onto the course much anymore as a result.

Many of the homes in the pga comlex have iron Big Horn sheep statues attached to their homes or on their property. Truly quite impressive.

        Great pictures Rick.

Shot my best round at Silver Rock. An 88 actual with 2 birdies and only had to adjust one stroke for handicap.

Wow! That looks like a golf getaway that won't be forgotten for a long while! 🙂

These are the pictures I took. Too hazy from the fires and too busy playing to take any more.
