So I decided to be an idiot today and booked a 2pm tee time with an expected high temp of 107°. Apparently I need to be stupid more often because I shot a 37-39 for a +5 76. Probably my best round ever! Played Lone Tree Golf Club and played 15 of the 18 holes as a single. I was taking my time and not rushing, thinking about every shot. Front nine took 1.25 hours and I brrdied both par 5's, had 3 bogeys and only 12 putts. Had 28 putts total. Back nine was 7 pars and 2 doubles. They had a 132 person Jr tournament going that I caught up to on hole 10 so the back nine took 2.25 hrs. I may have to make this a new routine. Damn that felt good. 1st time breaking 80 in 2 years.
Playing as a single is just so much different. I am not thinking about cutting it up with my buddies or worrying about where my cart partner hit his ball. I tend to play a little better in the winter months when I can walk the course and focus on my round a little more. My friends are my handicap.
Mattyv Buddy, I realized the SAME thing a few years ago when I stopped playing my regular course. Played there with a group of guys for years 3 times a week and was just always, not realizing it, hitting stupid shots because I wasn’t thinking golf. We were kibitzing and the course was so familiar, I’d hit shots to the same place all the time, never think.
Once I got a job at a course near my house and didn’t know anybody , just played by myself, I realized it. Now I was paying attention to golf. I thought I played fine before but now it’s a new level.
82 at Timber Greens. No birdies.
Was a bit brisk and chilly this morning for my 6:55 am tee time. 50*, overcast and a 25-30 mph wind out of the North......didn't have my best, but went 39/43 with triples on 2 and 11.
46 - 42 = 88
Tournament #6
Bad driver swing on hole #1 , and a cocky driver swing led to a push onto a cart path and OB led to 2 triple bogeys
OUCH
Otherwise, the driver is back, saving me $200 for an LTDx driver......with a new found freer swing, finding more fairways and improved geezer distance off the tee.
More importantly, my confidence is coming back.
The greens that have given me trouble reading seemed way easier today. Could confidence and patience be the difference? Four to six foot putts, no problem.
In the past I would be pissed to throw away so many strokes today but I feel like I'm a few swings and brain farts away from some decent scores.
75 at Longniddry on a breezy day earlier today - very much a round of two halves, as I couldn't make a par early on (five straight bogeys before my first par at 6), and then a pretty solid back nine. The hole positions hadn't been changed since the Professional's Day scramble tournament on Saturday - the par 3s were all in the middle of the greens (probably because of the hole in one prizes), but tough locations on the other holes with a lot of big-breaking putts. Add in firm conditions, and it made for some interesting golf - hit an 8-iron shot over 160 yards on the 9th (downwind), and 3-wood on the 13th from about 165 into the wind. That was the right club for the shot, too, as it finished about 6 feet under the hole for one of my two birdies - the other was a holed pitch shot from 65 yards on the 17th (bounce, bounce, roll, disappear...)
ode or Team Shitt
I really do need to find out who was on that team so I can start my jabbing…LOL
VigilanteTrail can start my jabbing…LOL
And never, ever get paired with the them.
I shot 37-39-76 this morning at Bella Vista GC in Coldwater, Mich. Our travel group took a road trip (about an hour and a half from Toledo) b/c one of our guys commutes from there every week to play with us. Great course in beautiful condition!! 8 GIR, 1 birdie, 30 putts.
VigilanteTrail LOL…indeed you do…
93 in a scramble? 4 right handers playing lefty? Oh, I know. Blindfolded!!
