I never said I actually thought anyone here was a KKK member or participated in the Jan 6th treason. My point was they'd have more "takers" of that hat as giveaway items at those 2 meetings than the other 2 meetings. Or at least I'd bet my life savings they would. Notice how this works, always? If we don't allow it the time to entertain, it doesn't come out of the hole. It's like that furry little critter in early Feb. People show up, give it a stage, and it comes out of its hole for 10 minutes. People turn away, go back home, creature goes back into its hole.
It works. Requires a little discipline, but shit eventually takes the waterslide into the sewer. So just don't respond! It's worked for me!

I will say again that he is often not wrong, in terms of the things he is talking about. There definitely has been way too much discrimination in the past in this country and there still is today. I don't like the unnecessarily inflammatory and aggressive nature of the way he tries to make his points, but like don't disagree with most of the actual underlying message.
I think there is an element of trolling here, but not all of his posts are trolling. I am ok with him sticking around. It would be better if he toned it down a bit. Maybe if we ask nicely..... 
If the "ist" fits... There are a lot of things posted here that would be considered offensive and some type of "ist" in a more public and diverse setting. Almost all of the time it just slides through. Once in awhile someone calls out something, but it gets washed over and even "liked" because many here find it "funny". Easy to get away with in this teeny tiny demographic.
Easy to find things "funny", when it's directed at someone else or a different group. Not so funny when it hits home, as was noted with the recent "retard" use, although that didn't get very much attention or sympathy. If I said some of these things at work, I'd be sitting in HR for awhile, or at home on "vacation". Just an observation.
I'm still waiting for anyone in the 60-70 year old range (give or take) here to chime in what they miss about "the America they grew up in" . What from 1955 to 1970 or so is gone that is worth missing? I'm genuinely curious, please prove me wrong. Other than NASA doing stuff, and housing being affordable on a single salary, I'm really struggling to see much missing that would appeal to ME. Granted, my knowledge comes from history books, documentaries, music, movies, TV, etc.

Might be trivial, but walking 4 blocks to elementary school and not having my parents (or me) worrying about my safety.... and then about a mile to junior high. Also, not having to do active shooter drills in those schools.

that was a direct consequence of : growing the military industrial complex to prop up and protect our puppets installed via Operation Ajax in the Iranian Coup, the house of Saud through its tumult, etc. When you see the backlash and oppression these issues created as a consequence, it sure seems like a thinking of and putting of "me" first and not of "everyone else". Imagine being a woman in Iran since the Revolution, etc. Sure you were a kid and didn't cause those issues, but romanticizing about the price while ignoring its actual externalities upon everyone else seems contrary to one of the very things you say is now "missing". ?
Speaking of the military industrial complex and things that should NOT be missed, how about (and I won't post them out of decorum) photos of for example the burning napalmed girl in Vietnam? or the Mai Lay massacre? etc? Do you really miss blunt warfare conducted with minimal to no concern for collateral damage? That is in no way meant to demean the heroic service of many soldiers who were doing their duty, even when mandated (draft) not volunteering. But it was arguably the last of the (USA involved) horrifically brutal brute force war efforts (modern warfare as horrific as it is, being much more tactical and surgical for both the aggressor and the target) .
I'll be the first to admit that yes I intentionally posted some rather provocative comments in response to "THE HAT" , because , as I just said, I learned about this time from books, documentaries, cultural media, and last but not least, 2nd hand stories. Did every person alive then experience ALL (or any) of the terrible things I just posted above? No , of course not. But my questions is--- if you did experience these things, you really miss them? and if you didn't experience them, then realize the America you grew up in is not the america EVERYONE grew up in. What was great for you came at the expense of many others. THAT last bit is really my key issue with the hat. Ignoring or taking that part for granted. Worse- if you don't ignore it, but proudly celebrate and brag that your life was awesome while knowing that it only was so because it hurt other people for it to be awesome, but that's a story for another thread. All I will say is that there are 2 groups in the USA today that hold significant political power; one tries to expand rights, the other tries to rescind rights. And we seem to be set very tribally into those 2 specific groups, the only country in the world really doing so, I guess the USA is exceptional at something after all.

/PS one thing you absolutely did have better back then than now. You could teach all those things in history class in any state, IF your school / district approved it. In 2024 many states, as you know, it will likely be illegal to even teach that slavery existed !

All of that was shameful. Horrible. I was just describing what I miss. Because there are things I miss about that time of my life doesn't mean I dismissed what was going on racially.
