Access to firearms seems to be the difference. Can't be just the people since Toronto has some of the same issues as other urban centers.
We have some rough areas but nothing like you guys have in your cities.
In 2023 there were 7 firearm-related deaths in Japan for the entire year. Japan has a population that is about half that of the US.
So it is equivalent to 14 total firearm deaths for the entire US in an entire year!
