You know, I've never thought to check if a iron face was flat, just assumed they would always be flat. Interesting!
SMT 479 specs and pictures
Jeff, have another look, for me, if nothing else. When you put the flat edge on the face, where does the bulge actually start? It's not humped, in the middle, is it (on all/any)? Are the faces flat except for the last 4-5 scorelines (from toe/topline)?
My AW shows what I just described, flat from leading edge to 5th line down at toe, and has got me wondering if they are not, in fact, supposed to be that way. What with a 'rebound' type face. And, it really couldn't be called a 'bulge' if this is the case.
Thanks for the info but could you please rotate your photos 90°?

And if you didn’t know but hit them better than your current irons… then what?. And I was afraid of ordering p790’s from Aliexpress
colej There’s always a possibility you could hit a set of Warriors better????
People have bashed Warrior golf for years I think primarily due to their marketing tactics of badgering you to death forever. I think their product was/is pretty decent. A playing bud of mine has been playing a set of Warrior Irons for at least 10 years. They are GI irons and look as nice as any other iron head and performance seems to good as well.
I'd like the guys with a decent guage/s to chime in re specs and which brands are tight, etc. I wouldn't doubt that some OEMs are way off like posted above, but ??

ode The only thing I ever check, is weight, when building.....head, shaft, grip. I do understand there are allowances basically in all those categories. And I know how to deal with any of them, to make clubs that work for me. I do notice the lie angle of the irons after building, and if too upright, I will have them adjusted to suit me. Only 1 time did I ever have lofts checked, and that was only on 2 clubs, a 7 & 8. I was hitting them the same distance almost every shot, & they were the same loft, as it turned out! Had there been just a few yards diff, not even 10 let's say, I would never had them checked. And, I have never checked an iron face for flatness.(not even sure they should be, or need to be). And that is leading me to my question here.....
How many on here are able to detect if a loft is off, on any club? Like I said, I knew from getting the same distance, no matter what the strike was like, from those 2 clubs. I did not have the others checked thinking they were not going within a certain yardage range, club to next club. How many can do that, can say....'I hit my 6i x yards, my 7i, y yards, etc.' & have those x's, y's be a set amount from club to club???
My point is, while the lofts may be way off spec, how many players would ever know, without having them checked, as long as they were getting a different yardage. IOW, just how many sub 7 'cappers are around these days?
I hit that 7 & 8 x distances all the time, every round. Someone please tell what the x stands for.....with my swing????
I only knew they went the same. I never knew how far they would go.
Anyone follow all that?
Par4QC Anyone follow all that?
Yes. Oh, am I suppose to supply a coherent answer ?
I've been a plus capper 4 times in my golfing life, but the last 10 years & 5 surgeries have taken their toll.
I can still hit the ball flag high most of the time and, to answer you question, yes I can tell if something
is off with my irons. I usually have my lofts checked when possible as I play quite a bit since retiring.
I may be left of right, but normally around flag high once I have the set dialed in.
Not sure I did answer your query.

I've bent/adjusted a lot of clubheads in the past and when the face of the iron is located
in the clamping part of the loft/lie machine,a face that wasn't flat would easily be noticed.
Don't recall ever seeing the face on a quality iron that wasn't flush with the holding
jig part of the machine.
