I agree - it was great golf and TV and I just love watching Bryson unleash the driver and how accurate he was most of the time. Overall he putted great, just couldn't make the clutch putt when he needed. A couple of things that I found interesting about him was that he avoided chipping off the green and putted instead - I wonder if he is just not comfortable with the long wedges around the green. I play SL too but my SW and LW are standard wedge length - I predominantly hit these clubs inside 100 yards and never felt comfortable chipping with SL sand and lob wedges.

Another thing I found interesting was that the announcers mentioned a couple of times that there were several instances where Bryson thought he hit a perfect iron shot but the result was way off, either too long or too short. I have experienced this as well and wonder the same thing sometimes - just wondering if this is a SL thing or not. I realize this happens to all of us but I have noticed this kind of thing happens a bit more frequently with my SL clubs. I always figure that it has more to do with my inconsistency but a guy like Bryson with his mechanical swing, it was surprising that it was happening to him too.

shokosugi IMO it's a technique issue with the touch shots, not a length of irons issue. How many times do the announcer say a golfer, and a pro golfer at that, should chip with a 7i and get the ball on the ground asap. They can't have it both ways. It's his upright swing, set up, and rigid motion that is to his detriment around the greens. Tee to green/full shots and on the greens I'd take his game over anyone's, around the greens he is average at best. I see no reason why he couldn't use conventional technique around the greens.....it's.nkt like that would be to his detriment on full swings. The issue is her need a 15th club to use or ditch one.of the others.

Same/similar re: distance control with his wedges...less than full/partial shots...way to rigid. IMO need a bit of fluidity for the feel shots. I don't know how he would do that with his technique. Speaks to just how good he is everywhere else when he stanks around the greens yet still should have won!

Bryson's go for it long game is so much fun to watch, it's got to be good for TV ratings. It's something new and exciting. I gotta wonder how the USGA thinks it's bad for the game. They'd take us back to persimmons if they could, methinks.

That would separate the Pro's from the Poser's!

I wish the PGA would do 1 Retro Tournament a year with "wood" woods and steel shafts. Also traditional lofted irons from in the day!

shokosugi I just love watching Bryson unleash the driver

I don't get this, at all. From you, or anyone else that watches the tournaments. Bryson is NOT the longest with the driver, on Tour. Day in/day out/every tournament, he is outdriven on many holes by others. They just may not be playing in his group when they do it, but they are still hitting the ball farther. EVERY tournament. Even JS has been hitting several in the 340 range & he used to only be a 285 hitter. That 340 is very much standard for Rory, and a few others.

Given, the 'stat' says he is the longest, which is bullshit, as they only keep track of 2 holes per round, 1 in each direction. But he is def not the longest overall, and, the ball has to be in the fw to count as a drive.

I didn't say he was the longest. I enjoy watching him take the risks. It's fun.

Par4QC Which is showing his ignorance, of course.

It's pretty smart when it pays off. 🤣 Can't be but so ignorant.......he's already 7 under in the Tour Championship!

Par4QC Given, the 'stat' says he is the longest, which is bullshit,

We need to have a good ole, down in the dirt, LD contest/event on with the PGA Tour boys.
6 pops, longest in the fairway/grid wins.

Eguller Remember Tony Finau, before he became a Pro? (And, his brother?) I doubt Bryson would hold a candle to him, if he was to unleash the swing again, instead of using that 1/2 swing.

My mistake.....he turned Pro at 17.

Par4QC I doubt Bryson would hold a candle to him, if he was to unleash the swing again, instead of using that 1/2 swing.

Love to see Tony go long!

                  Par4QC

I don't think everyone is saying he is the longest. I think he's probably swinging the hardest as a percentage of maximal effort and not holding back, which is fun to watch. He may also be the longest in terms of carry yardage but not in total distance after roll. He also takes aggressive lines off the tee.

I think it's great what he's doing and he's must watch TV in my books and when he's off, he looks like a typical 10 handicapper, which is also fun to watch. He seems sincere and is doing things his own way and this is fun and interesting too.

Par4QC . Bryson is NOT the longest with the driver, on Tour

                  Then who is?
You need to do a little more research before you make that statement.
It's pretty easy to prove (for this week) just by going through the BMW stats that DeChambeau was about 15yds.
longer than the next longest in driving distance avg. and that was Rory and then Cam Champ.
