Might as well get a thread going since I have taken the deep dive into the Last Tee. In a desperate search for something (anything) to get my ball striking...

IMO wider sole iron/hybrid designs with more bounce are about golfers that have a large tendency to hit the ball "fat". In that way they are much more forgiving. In that way they are good. More mass of a hybrid design helps on miss hits.

When you really look at the hitting area of most designs they are all about the same in the mid-80mm to 90mm width range from a manufacturing stand point that can't change much....it is what it is. It's an optical illusion that you think they are easier to hit as the thick top line and larger appearing head skews it from an optical viewpoint.

When I first started having elbow problems back in the early 2000's I played the Tour Edge Ironwoods which are more iron like in appearance opposed to a traditional hybrid.

Other manufacturers like Cobra (T-Rail), Cleveland (Launcher HB Turbo) and Wilson (Launch Pad) make them as well. One of the guys in our group bought a set of the Tour Edge Hot Launch 521 Ironwoods.

I hit both my G400's and TM Sim Max OS irons good, but would have no problem going back to a whole set of Ironwoods.

I tend to struggle with the really large SGI irons and even hybrids. I feel like my game needs them, but I hit them worse. Not sure what it is. I used to think it was the offset, but I had a midsize set with lots of offset that I adjusted to easily enough. I am a picker for the most part (except for wedges) so I don't need wide soles. Last fitting I kept trying the bigger irons and finally the fitter just made me stop lol. I would like to find a hybrid I like, but nothing seems to look quite right. The last one I liked was an old Nakashima NX1.

KCee I've found the same with the various Ping G type irons. I think they are for steep/fat swings, not shallow/pick.

DonM I suppose so. I can see how a digger needs a certain amount of bounce, effective or otherwise, but not sure why it would matter with a sweeper since there is little turf interaction. I just want the forgiving head for my toe shots lol.

It's pretty much the same for me with my wedges where I do actually take a divot although not a large one. I do better with a standard sole and less bounce. Except my Lob which is wide sole low bounce so maybe effectively a mid bounce. I actually felt like the high bounce wedges were causing me to "fluff" shots. I couldn't make them work to save my life.

For me the diamond-shaped sole of the TopFlite Tour OMG irons is a perfect cross between blades and a full hybrid set. They look like regular clubs at set up, but there is something about those soles that just works for me.
If the time comes that I would be better served by an all-hybrid set, I would have no qualms. Whatever makes it easier and mlre fun to get the ball where I want it to go is ok with me.

rsvman2 I'm also playing the OMG Top Flite Tour irons. After all those years I finally picked up a zet on eBay a couple years ago. Very forgiving.

DonM Here is what my A12 OS irons look like. 7-PW + GW. Sole is fairly wide (maybe an inch).....
Like them a lot!

Another 18 holes with the Integra I-drive. They're just plain easy to launch. No fear of fatties or foreheads.

sdandrea1 I love my I-Drives...I'm on my 2nd set...First set were R flex and had to switch to geezer flex...Great heads. Right now I'm trying the Wedgewood clubs, just for fun and something different, and they work well, just not as long as the I-Drive's...

My wife played the Wedgewoods for years, still has a couple in the bag. I've hit them and they do work well.

The I-drives lofts are super strong. The head labeled "S" (sand wedge) is 43 degrees. The P is 40. I'd like a 48 degree head, but the Power Play Select 5000 can be combined in to get 48 and 52.

So how much farther do you hit the I-drive pw than your regular wedge? Play them at the same length?

10 yards. They weigh about the same weight as iron heads. 36" 9h gave me D2 swingweight.

I just realized they sell a 46 degree LW. Guess I need to complete the set.

Yes it does. Like I said, the lofts are really strong. I hit the 43 degree "S" hybrid over 100 yards. The label doesn't matter to me once I figure out how far they carry. I just ordered the 46.

sdandrea1 Which shaft? Saw many choices but I don't know dog about shafts. Amazon offers no choice. Looking to try with the 7H.

They changed their shipping. I got my last set of shafts in 2 days, CA-IL. Used to take 4, til Steve bitched them out. 👍

Those are nice shafts....used the R flex today. Verrrry nice shafts!

The price and quality was worth the wait. My last 2 orders moved along pretty well. These are REALLY nice shafts!
