I might have to grab some Blue (vs Black) sharpies to keep the Poon reservoir full…
Shot 44 in league and lost on last hole. I made par but he had short sided chip in. I should have won earlier. Had 2 lipouts out earlier that cost me.
Shot 94 in a tournament last Saturday with 41 putts, oh my! Nothing was good really. Played the slumpbuster Monday to get some reps in , shot 82 which is on the cusp of being a decent round there. Figured some things out maybe?
Played yesterday and shot 37 from the whites in a league I sub in. Eagled the 3rd hole , par 5, canned it from 79 yards. First eagle in a long time. That won me $40 . Hit 6 GIR but couldn't sink any putts to make some more cash. Best I've played a nine in a long time.
Proceeded to fall apart on the back for a 50. I'm going to blame it on the 95 degree heat, lack of sleep and probably lack of talent. Pins were in absolutely diabolical places all day. But that 37 makes me feel I'm on to something with my new swing.
Typhoon No I sucked. I am struggling with the wind and how far I'm hitting the ball. It feels like I lipout every makeable putt too.
I shouldn't complain too much because the pins were in really tough spots and everyone's score was higher. The pin on #7 par 5 was on the false front and with our greens as fast as they are now it was unplayable. We had 2 balls roll up to within inches of the hole and then they rolled back down.
It is fun hitting the ball farther, but I'm not taking advantage of it. Not sure where the distance is coming from. I swing a rope and do some drills hitting balls into my net. I haven't been working out much or using my knockoff Speed Sticks. Might just be from gaining weight and getting my extra mass behind it lol.
Typhoon Yeah I felt like it was a 40 ballstriking, but pin positions, missed short putts and chasing a flag when my opponent stuffed one cost me strokes. I really need to practice my chipping and putting, but I don't even go to the range let alone the practice green.
I have to figure out some of the doglegs. I am hitting both driver and 3 wood through the fairway (no bueno), but I can't always get my 5h far enough for a good look. I need 5w or 3h again maybe? Or pull out the old 4w and choke down?
KCee From how you describe things you need to play within yourself and you’ll win. Someone hits it close by accident and you decide you have to hit it close to beat him and then end up missing the green, no up and down. He could 3 putt and still win the hole.
Hit hybrid smooth off the tee on the doglegs. On approaches just play for the middle of the green. Take enough club so only your best shot would would fly the green. Aim for the middle. Hit greens… be putting for birdie. Just because he hits it close doesn’t mean he’s making the putt…. You might be outside him and your putt puts the pressure on him.

Have started as of recent to continually remind myself of these 2 exact things on every hole I play…it is too easy to just naturally aim for the flag if you don’t take a few seconds to think about the shot…
Typhoon Are you telling me to play smart golf? Do I have to give up beer and bourbon too? You're right though. I shot 79 the last time I played smart. I had no driver swing or short game so I played smarter....except for the triple on #11. The way I'm hitting it now I should be shooting lower.
Unless the tees are up I can't always hit my 5h far enough to get a good look. I think I need a 3h or 4h that I can swing smoother with or maybe a 5w or even 7w would work. A few years ago I wasn't always getting the 3w to the corner and now I'm going through. I guess it's a good problem.
40, 41 today at Lee's Hill. Dry, hardpan conditions gave tons of roll but made for crappy iron play (even with my hybrid irons). Drove it well, chipped and putted well enough. One double and I birdie.
46/48 in the senior league. I was on in regulation the first 3 holes. Then I sucked the rest of the day. Only 1 more gir. I felt tired the last 5-6 holes and my swing was a mess. It wasn't super hot for Texas but humid. I'm not looking forward to July and August.
42 last night. 7 on the tough, extremely uphill last hole overcooking a drive left, when only a 3 or 5 wood is all that’s needed. Got to be smarter.
