Anyone want to play TPC Scottsdale on 12/30/23?
How did you shoot today at Golf
I’ve played it a few times. It was nice. The only places I would pay that much to play would be Pebble Beach. St. Andrews and Augusta. No where else.
Only reason I played it was I wanted to play a course they played on the PGA Tour.
83 at Heritage Harbor. No birdies. Only 2 of us this morning. We were first off at a little after 7:00 and were done a little after 10:00. A little cool and windy, but sunny.
Tale of two nines. 46-37. I had to pick up twice for net double bogey so my putts number is bogus. But I didn't 3 putt, and I 1-putted 3 times. I got into the zone on holes 10-11-12. On 10 I hit a pure 7 iron barely over the big oak tree that is in the middle of the fairway, rolled past the cup. Made the birdie. On par 5 11 I hit the green in two. It was playing downwind, and I hit a great drive and then a great 7 wood to pin high. Missed the eagle but got my second birdie in a row. I only get a GIR eagle putt about once a year. On 12 I got the closest to the pin, but missed the birdie turkey and settled for par.
7 wood story. I posted about the 20 degree Wilson 5 wood that I built for my 7 wood spot to replace my Acer that likes to draw. I used the iDrive Tour shaft. Well, something must be wrong with that shaft because it might be the worst club I've built in 10 years. I was warming up with it on the range, and it looked like I was hitting trick out of round balls or something. They were curving like wiffle balls, both directions. Wasn't happening with other clubs. So I hurried back home and swapped in the Acer, the devil known. And that club gave me the eagle putt. The iDrive shaft has 2 spines, which supposedly shouldn't happen with a filament wound shaft. I think at least this particular one is trash. Waddaya expect for ten bucks. I bet at the foundry loading dock it sells for three or four bucks.
I used my Launcher 25 wood a couple of times. Once on our long par 3, and at the time I was closest to the pin. I guess it got beat later. Next time into a strong wind and I went a little over the green but on target. Anyway it's a great club so far.

Yes, they are filament wound. And yes, supposedly the same as FGS Plus.

One thing I noticed with the FGS Plus and the iDrive, my hacksaw grit blade cuts through them like a hot knife through butter. The material is noticeably weaker/softer than any other shaft I have ever cut. I just take that to mean very cheap materials. But until this one, I've felt they, the FGS versions, played well so who cares if the materials are cheap or not. I mean obviously they are cheapest possible stuff, at the price point.

DonM the FGS versions
I have a lot of them(hoarded the yellow). And the iron shafts. Don't know why/how they perform so well at that price point. Should be total crap, but are much better than a lot of stock graphite shafts in OEM clubs!
I've never failed to find a spine(s) on any shaft using the spine finder I used to make. No matter the cost of the shaft.
44/46 this afternoon. Our group struggled mightily with super fast greens. I hit the ball well on the front 9 (5 gir) but only parred 2 of them. Twenty-two putts! It wasn't so bad on the back but I stopped hitting good iron shots and only had 2 gir.
51/44 today. On the 5th hole I started yanking everything left. I was 12 over par on the last 5 holes of the front 9. I somehow got the swing back on #10 and played the first 7 holes of the back 9 at 2 over par. At that point I was quite happy with the turnaround but carded an 8 on the par 4 #17 and missed a 2.5 footer for bogey on the last. Damn game.
Another nice day, another 83. 7 greens and 31 putts. 5 one putts and no three putts. I played the par 3s great and the par 5s like shit. So that’s a switch. Full swing has been pretty sketchy, but putting has been very good after a recent change in my approach to it. Especially since the greens are so damn fast.
I feel like it wouldn’t take much at all to get back into the 70s, but I just can’t keep all the plates spinning.
