Finally made it out to a golf course with my brand-new Srixon irons! Coolish and with a breeze that intensified during the round.
Bogeyed all of the first three holes, but thereafter went one under from 4-8. The ninth hole is a shortish dogleg par 5 that is guarded by water on the right. Started my drive on a too-aggressive line and with a little fade. Had to take a drop. Ended up with a bogey for a 39. Not bad considering the weather, and on a course I rarely play.

As for the irons, they are a bit like a cheat code. There is a lake short left of the par 3 7th hole. I hit a terrible shot that I knlw would be been wet with my old clubs, and it ended up only about 6 inches shy of the green and i had an easy two-putt par. I could see where the ball struck the clubface; about a centimeter away from being a hotel rocket, and yet the result was a tap-in par. Another shot I felt that I hit it fat, but the sole went through the grass nicely anyway and i only ended up losing a couple of yards. These clubs are the real deal. I hope/think that they will lead to more GIRs because they are not only more forgiving but also have a much more predictable ball flight than my old irons.

Mattyv They have a lot of openings. It'd be fun to see how many of those times end up being used that day.

Iโ€™ve played it a few times. It was nice. The only places I would pay that much to play would be Pebble Beach. St. Andrews and Augusta. No where else.

Only reason I played it was I wanted to play a course they played on the PGA Tour.

I used to be able to play it for $50-60 in the summer. Now the summer rate is $199 I think. There are much better courses around for cheaper.

83 at Heritage Harbor. No birdies. Only 2 of us this morning. We were first off at a little after 7:00 and were done a little after 10:00. A little cool and windy, but sunny.

Tale of two nines. 46-37. I had to pick up twice for net double bogey so my putts number is bogus. But I didn't 3 putt, and I 1-putted 3 times. I got into the zone on holes 10-11-12. On 10 I hit a pure 7 iron barely over the big oak tree that is in the middle of the fairway, rolled past the cup. Made the birdie. On par 5 11 I hit the green in two. It was playing downwind, and I hit a great drive and then a great 7 wood to pin high. Missed the eagle but got my second birdie in a row. I only get a GIR eagle putt about once a year. On 12 I got the closest to the pin, but missed the birdie turkey and settled for par.

7 wood story. I posted about the 20 degree Wilson 5 wood that I built for my 7 wood spot to replace my Acer that likes to draw. I used the iDrive Tour shaft. Well, something must be wrong with that shaft because it might be the worst club I've built in 10 years. I was warming up with it on the range, and it looked like I was hitting trick out of round balls or something. They were curving like wiffle balls, both directions. Wasn't happening with other clubs. So I hurried back home and swapped in the Acer, the devil known. And that club gave me the eagle putt. The iDrive shaft has 2 spines, which supposedly shouldn't happen with a filament wound shaft. I think at least this particular one is trash. Waddaya expect for ten bucks. I bet at the foundry loading dock it sells for three or four bucks.

I used my Launcher 25 wood a couple of times. Once on our long par 3, and at the time I was closest to the pin. I guess it got beat later. Next time into a strong wind and I went a little over the green but on target. Anyway it's a great club so far.

Didn't know it was. I thought someone had said it was the same as the DTG FGS Plus shaft. Which I know full well that every one has 2 distinct spines.

Yes, they are filament wound. And yes, supposedly the same as FGS Plus.

One thing I noticed with the FGS Plus and the iDrive, my hacksaw grit blade cuts through them like a hot knife through butter. The material is noticeably weaker/softer than any other shaft I have ever cut. I just take that to mean very cheap materials. But until this one, I've felt they, the FGS versions, played well so who cares if the materials are cheap or not. I mean obviously they are cheapest possible stuff, at the price point.

            DonM the FGS versions

I have a lot of them(hoarded the yellow๐Ÿคจ). And the iron shafts. Don't know why/how they perform so well at that price point. Should be total crap, but are much better than a lot of stock graphite shafts in OEM clubs!

I've never failed to find a spine(s) on any shaft using the spine finder I used to make. No matter the cost of the shaft.

DonM Cheap shaftsโ€ฆ I remember years ago I bought a Grafalloy Power Light. I think it was 45 grams. First time out it snapped in half on my backswing.

44/46 this afternoon. Our group struggled mightily with super fast greens. I hit the ball well on the front 9 (5 gir) but only parred 2 of them. Twenty-two putts! It wasn't so bad on the back but I stopped hitting good iron shots and only had 2 gir.
