Hey guys! It was a great time finally making it back to Desert Storm last week, seeing old friends, and making new ones. It's really something special that FGI has been creating friendships for over 16 years now.

I heard that the old site is closing down. As some of you know, I tried for a few years to regain control of FGI once Active stopped investing time and money into it. I got close a few times but ultimately wasn't able to and eventually they sold the entire golf division (including FGI) to TGC. For both Active and TGC, the core business is tee times. So although unfortunate for all of us, I do understand why they allocate resources where they do.

I set up this site as a both a safety net in case anything went south and a thank you to all the great people that make this community what it is today. I have complete control over this place and - although I don't have a ton of time everyday - I can make sure that it works well and remains a place for all golfers to enjoy forever.

Some of you have asked about the other domain name. It doesn't expire until 2018 and it's likely they will just redirect it to another one of their websites anyway. So we are going to have let that go and settle into our new name. But other than that, we can make this place as great as FGI ever was.

So at this turning point and next chapter, I would like to do 2 things:

1) I will pledge to you guys that I will keep an eye on this place with the time that I have. We will be adding private messaging and moderators soon and will continue to upgrade over time. We will also design some new logos and swag and whatever else we need to reboot the community.

2) In exchange, I ask for your help spreading the word to all the great golf folks you know. Send invites to anyone you know and let them know we have a new home!

Let me know if any questions/comments and welcome to all Buzzers! 👍

Moderators became a bad word on FGI. May want to steer clear until necessary 😙

Good to know, Justin. Appreciate your dedication to those of us who look forward to staying somewhat connected via the forum.

hobbit Moderators became a bad word on FGI. May want to steer clear until necessary.

If the forum grows as we all hope it does it will just be a matter of time before some kind of supervision is required and beyond what Jrock has time to watch. Been there, done that. I was one of the original mods for FGI. FGI was really wild at the time and I found that I was too thin skinned for the job and quit. In later years I thought that one mods turned very biased and when the forum was migrated to the new format and made public for awhile his posts really soured a lot of members. At that time I don't know if there was any supervision of the moderators.

Anyhoo, I think at some point Jrock will need help.

I think once we have an email/PM option and a categorized swap this forum will blossom.

Thanks for.doing what u do jrock. Seems like mods and that secret forum at fgi were not a good thing. Maybe keeping it like we have now and adding pm like Brock said is all we need.

Thanks again...glad to see a lot of the people that made fgi a great place now coming the the buzz.

I don't think people understand what the "secret" moderators forum was all about. It was not a "dark room" to dictate forum activity. It was there from FGI day one in a couple of formats just not visible to the general public. It was there for when a problem post cropped up and a mod would post for others to comment on how best to remedy that situation.

Perhaps Jrock appointing a few as "admin" to help if needed might work.

Was never a Mod as I was gone from the Forum for a 4 year period.

But, That period with which I was gone from the forum was the time that Moderators were appointed to their thankless positions.

As to the idea of Moderators being appointed, if necessary to this forum should Justin feel such to be necessary,
then Yes. Being that ALL be warned. This will be a Civil site ... A Friendly site ... A site for ALL golfers to communicate. A site for all Golfers to reach the Ideals that are so simple to attain.

Be A Buzz Golfer ... Respect THE GAME.

I never knew that part of fgi existed and i was shocked at what people granted access were saying about forum members that were not allowed access and had no idea what was being said about them behind their backs.

A link was "accidentally on purpose" posted and taken down suddenly but not before a lot of members got a peek.

          John,

It wasn't an link "accidentally on purpose" exposed.

I don't understand why that thought exists?

It was a website Owner trying to change the former Software to the NEW Software without checking out WHAT that Former Software had. In other words, they didn't understand the Forum they purchased. They were too much in a hurry to bury the Gem they had inherited.

It originally started as nothing more than an advisory board. Can't remember the exact specifics, but we might've had 8-10 guys who were asked if they wanted to participate in helping navigate some of the occasional conundrums that would pop up. Most of the time we were asked for our input when certain posters would intentionally cause issues with other posters, or maybe certain issues that would arise in the Flea Market, etc.

To my knowledge, no one from the board (while I was active) was singling out other posters in a biased manner... that was really part of the reason why it was a group committee deal to begin with - so personal biases wouldn't become involved in the resolution of whatever situation popped up. We were just providing unbiased feedback and suggestions to the moderator(s) who would bring the issue to our attention. Obviously we had a few instances with a couple of posters who intentionally trolled other posters to create issues, and of course when you see a pattern of that - you kinda know ahead of time the backstories involved and the overall intent. Nevertheless, at least while I was a part of that - I felt that we collectively provided reasonable advice to the moderators to deal with whatever it was, but it was still ultimately the moderator's decision about how to proceed.

I wasn't on the advisory board for the duration... because of life situations and time constraints I left the group, as I felt like I wasn't spending enough time there on the forum to be of much help. Subsequently, I cannot speak to what might've gone on there on the board after that, because honestly I have no clue.

But to be frank about it... the demise of FGI was already in situ long before the revelations of a "secret" group ever surfaced. The attitudes there by several posters all but guaranteed that the place was destined for the world-wide toilet.

Hopefully that same tragic ending can be avoided here.

Hey guys. The intention of this thread is to turn the page on a new chapter and hopefully welcome some new faces. Let's put whatever happened on FGI behind us and move on. 😃

          Thanks!

All I have to contribute is that you "rock" jrock! Anyway, I can get a round Buzz towel?

Thanks for your support jrock - much appreciated!

Yeah, not trying to upset anyone. Actually, come to think of it it was the private moderator forum.

Anyway, who gives 2 shits....onward with the Buzz.
