  • JB Holmes - what would you have done?

Rickochet
Only once has the PGA assessed a penalty, IIRC.
"On the clock" is a joke to them.
Euro Tour does it more frequently, so those guys play faster.

I have a feeling that JB probably should avoid considering playing any Euro tournaments unless he tasks up speed golf.

I think the PGA should get their act together, maybe encourage and give players the green light to play READY golf.

PA-PLAYA You either agree that J.B is a slow player or not.

I think he is. What do you guys think? Yes or No?

This thread isn't about whether he is slow or not. It is about what he did on hole #18 at the Farmers Insurance tourney.

    PA-PLAYA

    1. JB has a rep for being slow and showed his ass on Sunday
    2. He's not the only one on tour
    3. The tour is chicken shit and does nothing about it (mostly)
    4. These are just my opinions
    5. Rick is entitled to his opinion, even though he's wrong. 😝😉

    Rickochet

I respectfully disagree. Did he take more time than needed to execute his shot?

Four+ minutes? Then to just lay up? Please tell me that this should be the norm that should simply be accepted.

I cannot possibly agree. I'm not a huge Rickie Fowler fan, but it doesn't take him 4 minutes to go through his routine and execute a golf shot. I'll give him that.

These slowpokes are killing the game. Hard to tune in when some of these guys make it a life-or-death situation over ever other shot.

    There's a reason why I didn't tune-in to the tournament on Sunday.

I don't think I'm alone in my thinking.

      PA-PLAYA

How many folks tuned in on Sunday?
How many of you guys watched the tournament on Sunday, and the following playoff Monday?

Maybe I'm in the minority, but I didn't watch any of the action this week. Nor did I feel compelled to watch the playoff on Monday. In fact - it never occurred to me that there was even a Monday playoff.

      Netflix won over.

On a non-NFL weekend, at that.

        PA-PLAYA

I watched Sunday from 6pm on and the Monday finish. Nearly fell asleep waiting on Holmes. 😜

PA-PLAYA I respectfully disagree. Did he take more time than needed to execute his shot?

Four+ minutes? Then to just lay up? Please tell me that this should be the norm that should simply be accepted.

It was not about time needed to execute the shot. It was about the decision process. And as I have posted in this thread many times IT WAS ABOUT ONE SHOT, not the whole round. And it added maybe 3 minutes to the round. If he had gone for it and dunked it in the pond it would have probably cost him $150K or more. JB is being bashed for taking an extra 3 minutes on an important shot decision.

Rickochet . JB is being bashed for taking an extra 3 minutes on an important shot decision.

          Yep. Tough crowd here. 😉

          Rickochet

Not really interested in bashing one person. It's about how some of these players take an inordinate amount of time to execute a golf shot.

If it wouldn't be accepted at my club, or your club, then it shouldn't be tolerated period. No matter how much money these guys are competing for - which I do factor in. Four plus minutes in a situation where a rules official wasn't needed?

          Inexcusable.

The argument could just as easily be made that the more time required for thought and planning could just as easily be a negative factor.

Get these guys moving. I understand that they're competing for a lot of money. But damn.... you've got 3 hours to complete the final 9 holes on Sunday, and you can't get that in?

          Damn.

Rickochet So you're saying JB is kinda slow minded, not just a slow golfer?

Then there is the fact the round took over 6 hrs.. But then, that's just an aside from this thread topic.

Had I been Noren, I'd have played on, while JB was playin with his dick. That's not a rule violation either, iirc. Talking about the playing on part...I'm sure there is a rule somewhere about playing with your dick on course. Now, I haven't actually read that, I'm just assuming. And I probably should not be doing that either, much the same as JB playing with his dick on course. On TV.

I find this thread interesting. JB took 4 minutes and 10 seconds to make a shot on the 18th hole where he clearly had a decision to make with a possibility of a "win" and the media jumps on his case and the herd follows.

I like Jordan Spieth, but Jordan took 20 minutes to play his shot in the Open and it was on the 13th hole - not on the 18th.

Personally, I would have taken as long as it took me to be settled in my own mind about what to do. Even when JB did take the shot the results indicate he still was not comfortable with his decision.

              Par4QC

He's habitually slow. And as much as I admire the fact that he's somehow rebounded from a serious health situation and such a great story from an inspirational standpoint...

Damn. Can't pull the trigger on a routine shot within 4 minutes, with no rules official needing to intercede?

Like I said - there's a reason I read about it versus watching it live.

And if the tour continues to cast the time impact aside? They're losing fans like me (and potentially sponsors). I actually play the game 2-3 times per week on a recreational level, and have somewhat of an incentive to follow televised golf. But I'm growing very tired of the ass-scratching silliness that goes on.

It would seem that they'd want to address that.

              But that's just me.

I didn't watch any live coverage, caught the highlights on the sports segment. You guys who are A-OK with these guys spending 4 hours of your Sunday afternoon torturing you while watching them complete the final 9 holes of the tournament - good for you!

But for me - I've got more important things to do for 4 hours on a Sunday afternoon than watching these guys play grab-ass with their caddies and trying to figure out which wedge they should use on what used-to-be a par5 back in the day.

As much as I loath the NBA - I'd rather watch a basketball game. At least it finishes on-time.

              Rickochet

If it were only one instance....
JB takes 3 minutes over every f-ing shot.

He's the poster child for slow play. Hard to watch. And players playing in the groups behind him know this.

And he's a homeboy of mine... a Kentucky boy. I do pull for him. But it's incredibly difficult to watch him play on a Sunday afternoon when he's in the coverage.

He needs to address his slow play.

Par4QC Had I been Noren, I'd have played on, while JB was playin with his dick.

If Rory Sabbatini had been playing with JB, he'd have finished the hole and been on the way to the airport by the time JB hit that shot. ☺

lambo I find this thread interesting. JB took 4 minutes and 10 seconds to make a shot on the 18th hole where he clearly had a decision to make with a possibility of a "win" and the media jumps on his case and the herd follows.

I agree. If this had been Tiger the media would have said,"This is a very important shot for Tiger and he needs to take all the time he needs to make sure his decision is right."

Par4QC .I'm sure there is a rule somewhere about playing with your dick on course.

The commentators do it on a routine basis under the desk while Tiger is playing. 😜
