There is no golf season for snowbirds and deep southerners, only calendar years. I almost played too much golf this year . I started to get complacent, and took to excessive ho-ing to keep it interesting. Big waste of money and bad for my consistency. I'm not quitting the ho-ing cold turkey, but I am placing more emphasis on sharpening my skills than changing equipment. I leave for FL tomorrow so next week begins the 3 league matches per week season, so I need to get sharp and try to win some $!!!!

Overall I had a pretty good year. Overhauled my swing almost completely, using mostly the Malaska system. This necessitated a few growing pains, but on the far end I think I came out of it a better ball striker. I also feel more efficient, and less tired after a round of golf.

On Saturday I played a course I've played many, many times and on the 17th hole I hit a drive farther than I've ever hit on that hole before, which is pretty exciting.

I had a lot of fun playing. I got excited for good shots and rolled with the punches on the bad ones. I didn't expect perfection so I didn't get frustrated. I didn't have a single horrific round. I had some bad stretches and even some bad nines, but I never let it destroy the whole round. So I think my mental game is improved, as well.

Played a bit less this year, a few age issues. Getting old can be a pain. Have to say that after winning the Member/Guest with my son, well that sums up the year.......GREAT...

I have been working hard to make swing changes, found a body friendly swing style/method. Turns out that I had a swing very similar to this back in the 60s with good results. Hopefully by next spring I will have a repeatable consistent and predictable swing that has regained some lost distance.

My winter season do's and goals for 2018 are still in draft, expecting about 50 plus more rounds before the end of the year..

Didn't play as much as I had the last couple of years, but that was the bad news. Good news was the reason was because I was travelling to Phoenix every 3rd week for work, but that meant I could play 36 in Palm Springs on Monday. So I got to play almost all courses that I had never played, or hadn't played in 15-20 years.

I didn't feel like I have been playing well, but the scores are better than I would have thought thanks to improved putting and chipping. Did have my lowest round in 10 years. Definitely feeling the distance loss at age 53, so I am staying off the back tees.

Really good year, played a decent amount. Found a great putting routine last year, worked on it with straight 6-10 footers this winter and had a great year putting. Got fit for a driver over the winter by Frank at Ace of Clubs and hit it longer and straighter than ever. At my home course, every driver hole I set a new personal best. Irons were great, GIR was up.

Didn't lose any distance...in fact at 56 I'm longer than ever.

Scoring, nothing over par and shot my personal best score of 57 on our par 70 course. My previous best was 58 a few years ago.

Off season I'm going on a heavy strength program at Crossfit. Looking into buying the Superspeed system. Would like to add 7 mph of clubhead speed.

    Grade-D

After finally getting to the point earlier this year where my body had recovered enough from neck and spine surgery, and I felt pretty good, I thought for sure this would be the year for me to return to the game of golf. Heck, I even bought a house on a golf course last year. I have played only once so far this year. πŸ™ It was a scramble (I was a hole sponsor) and I had so much fun playing in it with my son, girlfriend and her father (we even finished first in our flight). Just wish there was more time in the day/week to get out there versus doing other things.

    Next year though! πŸ™‚

My golf season was a TOTAL success. I only played 4 rounds instead of 50 but, I'm still alive so yeah, better than "scratch"!

Not sure my index this year but I'd guess I'm a 6 now. If I could hit a drive I'd be a 3. Irons, short game and putting are in a good spot. Been able to enjoy plenty of new to me courses this year!

      Inconsistent !

Examples of rounds this year to demonstrate.
      A) 9 pars a birdie , two 10's
      B. )38 front , 51 back.
      C) start birdie, double, double, double , par, birdie, birdie, birdie, top my tee shot 10 feet ...did shoot my lowest round that day though so all wasnt lost.
      D) 1 over thru 14 holes then quad, triple, triple , par

Several rounds in mid 80's with 40+ putts.

We'll get er fixed for next season. Goal is to get back to a 7-8 handicap. Currently 11.7

Did very well in our league that uses Calllaway scoring πŸ˜‰

livegolf Irons, short game and putting are in a good spot

If say better than "good" shape. Great is more like it. πŸ˜‰

Good season, went to a formally private club.that is now public, nice layout, challenging but fair enough where you can get around with a Good score. Nice course with enough flaws (poa annua in greens and gnats when warm) to keep it from being really busy....in this regard I can play a lot of golf and get the best of both worlds.

As to the game, solid, more consistent this year with less really low rds., But far fewer blow up rds. Trying to accept my limitations still to this day....has been a battle, but getting there, can't hit a draw with the driver, so on draw holes I hit 3 wood, which on my course means hitting driver 7 times (2 times driver isn't the play due to hazard and eof issues) that friggin drives me nuts, but scores have been better overall with a more conservative strategy.

        Iron play=solid
Wedge play=inconsistent, lately lots of slightly thin and slightly fat shots, has killed some really good scores
        Putting=solid
Chipping/pitching=solid, no flop shots unless absolutely necessary.

This time if year I get to play some courses I otherwise would not; in the last month I have played-

Meadow Valley, the Irish, the River, the bull, Brown deer Park, Washington county, Brown county, fire ridge, royal St. Patrick's, thornberry Creek, wild rock....some more than once. Been a great month of golf, fall rules for golf!

Putting best ever since I found my holy grail
Just reshafted my irons and have been throwing darts.
        New wedges that are phenomenal.
Driving the ball better than I ever have.
I have Spuzz to thank for most of this since he identified a swing flaw. Ever since its been great. Shot a 38 last time out. Lowest score ever.
Can't wait for next year! Probably have improved my average by 4 or 5 strokes.

We'll have to resurrect that old thread on FGI...how many courses have you played, in how many states? Another thought is a thread on naming your top 10 favorite courses. When the snow starts flying here....

The season isn't quite done here yet so I'll keep plugging away. Like the angler that goes back out for the 'big one that got away' or the hunter looking for that trophy buck before the season closes, I am going out to try and record that elusive ace.

My season is year round golf. I play three times a week weather permitting. The main goal for me this year was to just get out, get some exercise and enjoy the walk while playing some golf with my wife and friends. Well most of this went just as I planned, but our third player has had some medical problems and it looks like he is not only out for the year, but also for good. So it is now just the two of us which is fine, but this is the second of our foursome to drop out in the last six years. We have others players who will join us occasionally, but there are not many players who are not already in a group.

mikeintopeka Still at 48 states, I've focused more on playing within a couple hours of where I live to increase my course count. I hit 600 18 hole courses/facilities played in August so somwhere around 625 courses played if you add in nine hole courses and what I've played since.

I don't know that I've seen a favorite course thread at golfbuzz, so throwing one up wouldn't be a bad idea!

Not much golf for me this year - one round and one range session - after moving a couple of hundred miles south (work-related) in September last year. There are courses in the area, but none are particularly convenient to where I'm staying, and I'm not particularly keen on paying out for a membership (and joining fee!) when I'm not sure how long I'll be in the area... (I've also been doing quite a bit of running, which takes up a fair bit of my spare time.)
