Par4QC When I throw something down, it goes down, not up.
If I hit down on a golf ball sitting on a tee, it is going down. That is a promise.

Think he's talking about angle of attack. Pro's hit anywhere from slightly down (angle of attack) to slightly up. Long drive competitors hit up anywhere from 5-8 degrees.

LPGA players have learned to optimize distance by hitting more up on average. With the average swing speed being 94 mph and average course distances of 6600 yards they are playing longer courses for their swing speed than the PGA Tour.

I like more loft myself. With a swing speed in the upper 80's I want more carry. Need to carry bunkers and water. And playing in the early morning with the dew we don't get a lot of roll.

Golfers have to find what works best for them. For many there may be diminishing returns hitting too much up. My guess is anywhere from minus 2 to plus 3 degrees is the sweet spot for many golfers.

I play my Ping G425 10.5 at the plus 1.5 setting. Love seeing my drives take off high into the wild blue yonder. lol

LogicalOne Last Tee Cul…ahem, Club, are becoming super aggressive with their recruiting. AARP level type of stuff! 😧 Be careful! 😂

We’ll…. If there are tee gifts, membership cards, free dialup, geezer club discounts. I’m in like Flint.

Eguller On condition of anonymity, I interviewed this person. This person stated it was the $12.00-$12.50 shipped items catalog that attracted him.

Par4QC Why would anyone ever deliberately hit down on the ball on the tee???? Regardless of any lofts.

I have never had a lesson in my 62 years of playing. I have a negative AOA with my driver. Always have and always will. I don't do it on purpose. It just happened on it's own and I am not about to change it now. I just select a loft that works best. Generally I have used 12° or higher. I have an 18° that I deloft at address that I hit well with my desired trajectory. I have an old 12° Integra Super Sooolong with adjustable weights that I have at 210g. This sucker hits worm burners that roll a mile.

Subsonic Not an odd question. Golf is a game of opposites. If he is getting good launch with 8 degrees he may be hitting down on the ball.

I don't necessarily get good launch. I hit low bullets that roll out farther than any high loft driver with more carry. The firmer it gets the more I gain.

      Par4QC Odd question, that one.

PGA pros average 1* negative AOA.

Par4QC As a Senior, I guess I need that explained to me.

Rickochet jmo, but 'negative AoA' is not 'hitting down'. If you are hitting down, your driver will continue down. Your club will never go up.

If you understand that, then you know why I dislike the term "hitting down". No one....hits down on a ball.

fatshot Hmmmm.....should it trouble me that the PGA tour pro's Club Speed with a Pitching Wedge is about the same as mine.....with a DRIVER...??

Right there with you. Whatta ya gonna do?

If the clubhead is moving down when you hit the ball how is that not hitting down? This should be good.

Why? The swings an arc, it goes down then goes up. If you contact the ball while it's going down you're hitting down, what's hard to understand about that?

garyt1957 If you contact the ball while it's going down you're hitting down,

...then ball is in the wrong position. Or you are, take your pick. jmo, again.
This is why people 'try to' use high loft driver heads. Move. Your. Ass. Over. You'll get the height from that 10 the same as you do now with that 14. With less spin. Maybe.

DonM This could only be an argument in the Last Tee.

I'm not arguing anything. Stating fact. If I hit down on that ball, you can be damn sure it's going down.

You must be playing a 0* driver
