johnnydoom but overall the lower the cost of energy, the lower the cost of everything.
It's supposed to work like that. It used to. 10 years ago I never really noticed prices fluctuating with energy prices, but that may be from not paying attention to such. But in the years between now and then, I have seen it. ex., I used to buy 12 pks of 'pop'...soft drinks at the gas station around the corner and would comment when paying as to the price being related to their gas pricing.......up when gas was up, down when gas was down. Jokingly asked them if they knew if what was in the cans would taste like oil? Grocery prices were always up/down, and that was always the case, every visit would be different, esp. in certain depts. within the store.
Other than gas & grocery prices, I don't notice any fluctuating. With home energy use, typically it goes up. Housing goes up. Vehicle prices go up. Entertainment goes up. Dining out goes up. Clothing, to an extent, goes up. And yes, golf equipment goes up(only down on previous year models).
And wages go up, and have gone way up for most/a majority of employees....in certain fields/areas.
If prices drop, they will not over all areas, only where is 'normal/historical'. And we, imo, will not notice it so much. Workers will never give up wages nor will companies give up profits. Both sectors are used to what they now have. And the companies will keep theirs up in case of another Covid type situation. Price declines may only come from excess inventories and be very temporary/short term deals. Much like end of year vehicle model sales, which never 'save' anyone any money.
I read an article yesterday about some lady that, because of a discussion with her husband, went back through her Wal-Mart grocery receipts. 4 years ago she spent $XXX on 1 visit. She went through the list and input those same items on a 'to buy' list. Total came to 135% higher!
Prices are not coming down to where people are thinking/wanting/needing. The world has never worked that way. We might see $2.00 gas for our vehicles tomorrow, but in 3 years we might also have to sell said vehicles.....can't afford gas!!
And btw.....that vehicle ins. & registration is not going down either.๐
Everyone wants to talk about the weather, but................
