Yipsy The point that was being discussed was lower fuel prices. Lower fuel prices will never bring down consumer pricing. It will only increase retailers/distributors profits. And that is if, and only if, transportation costs are reduced. And if I'm used to seeing a check every week for $5000, I'm not going to drop that to be $4000. Even if fuel is free.
imo, there is no such thing as competition in pricing any more. No matter the product. You may not see prices going up, but I'll say you will never see them going down. Unless to liquidate older stock/excess inventory on hand. Or a short term 'price war'. Fluctuations will always occur also, but in the end, prices average out over time.

Yipsy "Seasonal"/fresh produce.......the fluctuations I mentioned😉.
At that, prices won't be lower. The more you sell, the more you need. The more you need creates more transportation.

I'm done here. Prices are not going to go down due to price of fuel. Even with free fuel. Reality.
That 40K truck will be 44K next year even if fuel costs go down 50%. It will not be 40K!! Or less.

Typhoon Isn’t this thread about our local gas prices?

It's nice to see a discussion that does have some political ramifications and folks can remain civil and rational.

Exactly! It's so good to see this level of understanding. Gives me some hope!

DonM OK, we must have veered into the "am I right?!" part of the thread. Clearly by the recent responses, you are wrong since not a gas only, if at all, price thing.😂😁

professor It's nice to see a discussion that does have some political ramifications and folks can remain civil and rational.

        lol lol lol lol

Bravopilot Every year or so, we veer off into oil companies are greedy, prices should be set by government central planners, etc.
        🙂

Usually it’s just before summer starts, though.

propman can't do that ie price controls. Only commies do that

Well, rent control was a bust. Despite my being a "liberal", when it comes to economics and even the social programs for which I lean left, most Federal regulation tends to just be interference. I've got issues with a very human tendency to look for easy solutions to complex problems. But I've grown tired of the misattributions to presidential administrations for all the erroneous blame they receive.

backinit This is laughable. The US economy thrives on inexpensive energy. This is something Biden did his best to stick a fork in from the start. Bidenomics...

What a pain in the ass. This isn't The Water Hazard. You simply post an unsubstantiated opinion? And Walterjn and jsippy73 like it? Why, because rumors, gossip, and sound bites float your boat? Support your statement or shut-up. Are you famililar with the ebb and flow of "energy" costs? Take a look over time and share your experience with all of us. And, try to display a correlation between those costs and presidential administrations.

professor I don't have to "support" my statement for it to be true. And I don't have to attack you to disagree with you.
              Lie, cheat, steal and attack...

                Support a statement? That's asking a lot.😂

backinit I don't have to "support" my statement for it to be true.

Wow, that's rather ignorant. But you're correct, you don't have to do anything. Just remain close-minded. See, if you don't provide any substantiation how might I better understand or perceive you perspective?

backinit Lie, cheat, steal and attack...

Whatever the hell that means...? Is that some sort of accusation? I'm sorry, who's most notorious at this present day and age for "lie" and "steal"? Who's the 'father' of "stop the steal"? I have to imagine you don't believe in the rule of law nor decisions made by innumerable courts in our country?

But you sure did get jsippy73's endorsement. I wonder why?

Does saying that low energy cost is beneficial to an economy really require support? Is there some product or service that doesn't require energy that we can use to drive the economy?

I can see why some products that use one form of energy may benefit from a high cost to alternative energy, but overall the lower the cost of energy, the lower the cost of everything. Unless you assume a lack of competition in the economy, in which case there is an additional issue that needs to be addressed, but unrelated to whether lower energy costs is beneficial.

You're way over his head. All he wants to do is ridicule people. It's his way of having fun or getting off.

At least johnnydoom can put together comprehensible statements. It's good that you show your ass in The Clubhouse. That way everyone gets to see your level of ignorance.

That's not all he said/asked/asserted. Why'd you skip the rip on Biden? What prevents you folks who support him from substantiating your opinions. I guess it's "just because..." Just plain ignorant.

johnnydoom but overall the lower the cost of energy, the lower the cost of everything.

It's supposed to work like that. It used to. 10 years ago I never really noticed prices fluctuating with energy prices, but that may be from not paying attention to such. But in the years between now and then, I have seen it. ex., I used to buy 12 pks of 'pop'...soft drinks at the gas station around the corner and would comment when paying as to the price being related to their gas pricing.......up when gas was up, down when gas was down. Jokingly asked them if they knew if what was in the cans would taste like oil? Grocery prices were always up/down, and that was always the case, every visit would be different, esp. in certain depts. within the store.
Other than gas & grocery prices, I don't notice any fluctuating. With home energy use, typically it goes up. Housing goes up. Vehicle prices go up. Entertainment goes up. Dining out goes up. Clothing, to an extent, goes up. And yes, golf equipment goes up(only down on previous year models).
And wages go up, and have gone way up for most/a majority of employees....in certain fields/areas.

If prices drop, they will not over all areas, only where is 'normal/historical'. And we, imo, will not notice it so much. Workers will never give up wages nor will companies give up profits. Both sectors are used to what they now have. And the companies will keep theirs up in case of another Covid type situation. Price declines may only come from excess inventories and be very temporary/short term deals. Much like end of year vehicle model sales, which never 'save' anyone any money.

I read an article yesterday about some lady that, because of a discussion with her husband, went back through her Wal-Mart grocery receipts. 4 years ago she spent $XXX on 1 visit. She went through the list and input those same items on a 'to buy' list. Total came to 135% higher!
Prices are not coming down to where people are thinking/wanting/needing. The world has never worked that way. We might see $2.00 gas for our vehicles tomorrow, but in 3 years we might also have to sell said vehicles.....can't afford gas!!
And btw.....that vehicle ins. & registration is not going down either.😉

Everyone wants to talk about the weather, but................
