Epic choke by Pereira, tee shot, approach, and chip....if he pulls off any of them he's in playoff at worst. And Young and Fitzpatrick both pissed away chances down the stretch. JT the beneficiary of all that and takes out Zalatoris in the playoff. Nice approach on the first playoff hole after Zalatoris is on for an eagle look and then a great 3 wood for his own eagle look.

I recorded and watched the end last night. Epic 7 stroke behind comeback for JT!
I watched a LOT of this tournament and what I want to know is why 99% of the tee shots on #18 were up the right side where the creek is? I could tell part of the fairway funneled shots that way, but it looked like there was room on the left side of the fairway.
I swear I saw maybe 6 shots in 4 days hit the left or left center of that fairway. Was there OB left? Was the wind always blowing hard Left to Right? Isn't aiming away from trouble Golf 101?
USGA could learn something from the bunkers at SH as to them being more of a hazard.
Overall course looks like a legit test for these guys, plenty long, but not crazy when you factor in the length of the par 3,s, rough = penal but fair, brought the flyer into play plenty, bunker and green complexes look super.
Would those of you that observed Mito's collapse say it was as bad or worse than Van de Velde at Carnoustie?

I don't think it looked as bad, but it was Mito's tournament to win or lose on the 18th. His swing did not look the same on the last 5-6 holes and his swing on #18 tee looked like a 15-25 capper. I give Mito credit for sticking around for interviews. Hopefully he gets a chance to redeem himself in the near future.

+1 except for the membership override.
Honestly, I would like to see that as a requirement for every tourney. A trap should not be an automatic bailout option.
My home course is nothing like Southern Hills except:
- you want to avoid the rough
- you NEVER want to go over a green
- only 2 par 5's
- the par 3's are really hard
- the course is hilly
- the bunkers are not easy to deal with
- hitting the fairway doesn't automatically mean you get a level lie or even a good look at the green
- the wind swirls
Actually my course is very much like Southern Hills except our club house would probably fit inside one of their maintenance sheds
I thought both Pereira and Zalatoris showed a lot of class in losing.

Pereira’s 18th hole reminded me of Phil’s 18th hole and ultimate loss in the U.S. Open at Wingfoot in 2006.
