Spuzz Should wins by golfers using long putters even count? Who would want the Legacy of being known as old Broomstick Billy?

Subsonic Right? Who wants to be known as a Long Putter Larry?

PGA : Mr. Mcarron, you're not allowed to anchor the grip of your putter against your chest. That is cheating. Stop it.

Dufus McCarron: I'm not anchoring. It just looks like I am.

    PGA: Ok, then. Carry on.

Subsonic Who would want the Legacy of being known as old Broomstick Billy?

Haha. Well in Bernhard Langer's case if he were to die on a park bench tomorrow, the opening line of his obituary would be two-time Masters champion. That's the opening line of his professional golf legacy. I doubt anywhere in the obit would there be mention he used a broomstick putter. lol

Subsonic Maybe to you. I think to the rest of us there will always be an * next to those wins.

Haha. I guess we'll just have to wait and see if in his obit they use an asterisk. lol I doubt it though. Same with Wes Simpson and Keegan Bradley.

Opening line in their obit is U.S. Open champion and PGA champion. That’s their professional golf legacy.

No mention of belly putters. Because just as with Bernard it was legal when they won.😉

Subsonic I think to the rest of us there will always be an * next to those wins.

Then, what to do about Sam Snead, the all time win leader ? The PGA even banned him
from a putting style. As long as they comply with 'current' Tour rules, I suppose there
      would be no * 🤔

Snead was great no question. Too bad he never won a U.S. Open (runner up 4 times). And he and Tiger are tied with most wins with 82. Although some of Sam’s wins would be considered ticky tack wins against inferior fields. Still 82 wins is 82 wins.

Story Harvey Penick tells in his book is when he was on the range and heard the sound of Snead’s ball coming off the face he decided then to be a club pro. Lol

Sneakylong Sam’s wins would be considered ticky tack wins against inferior fields.

I wouldn't want to play against Hogan, Nelson, etc.... Some of Snead's records are untouchable.
And, it is very hard to compare different eras.

Since LIV tour is changing things up, maybe they could have some different formats:

            1) A Limited Bag Challenge. Driver, Long Club, Medium club, Short club, Wedge, Putter.
            2) Better Ball
            3) Scramble
            4) Alternate shot
            5) Maybe something with Golf Games like Wolf etc...

Something other than the same people making the same shots week in and week out. Maybe you could have man and Woman Teams or throw Seniors into the Mix. 🤷

              Subsonic Alternate shot

Alternate shoe like Scott Piercy did yesterday.

No question, but ‘some’ of his wins did come from for lack of a better term obscure tournaments back then. Where the competitors were far from the top level of that time.

Key word there is some. And it takes nothing away from his accomplishments. Just like Byron Nelson’s 1945 record of winning 18 out of the 30 tournaments he played in. Including 11 in a row.

But it being in the WWII era the competition certainly wasn’t the same.
