Acer XDS Fairways

Has anybody tried these updated Acer XDS Fairways? I'm considering making myself a 7 wood to try and there's not much out there. I'm not looking for anything too shallow, so I thought this might work, but haven't really seen much about them.

ptjn1201 Think I sold my 3 to @ode. I only hit it a couple times and didn't get along with the slightly closed face. It was a good head, just went too far left in my hands. 😉
It does have the shallowest face I've seen on fw heads in quite awhile; the only reason I even bought it.

You could buy one used. I was looking at 7-woods, not 3-woods,but I found some for about $110-125 on the usual used club sites. Not heads, mind you, but full clubs. I don't know if you could find anything cheaper.

KCee Have mine curing on the work bench. Put a Fujikura Atmos Red 5 fairway shaft in geezer flex into it. Going to give a try tomorrow on the course.

I never tried one -- used the Krank 7 wood for a while, then dusted off an old MacGregor NV-NX 9 wood I had around, and that was in the bag most of last year. I like the looks of the SR-1 but haven't pulled the trigger there, either. And as I've lost distance the last couple of years, I'm not sure anything will really help me that much.

I have been wanting a 25 degree fairway. Cally has some 11 woods but they are $$$. So I ordered the XDS 9 wood. I don't mind if is a hair closed, that actually sets up nice for me. We will see.

I built the SR-1 7 wood and the XDS 9 wood. They are good. As Rex has mentioned, they sit slightly closed, which is very typical for Hireko. I was able to make them work but the miss is left, which I don’t like. It’s more of a problem off the tee for some reason. So we’ll see.

At this point they just have to be better than my hybrids, and they seem to be.

DonM Yeah, they are nice enough/long enough, but for some people the closed-slightly closed faces are not a good thing.
Just a typical Integra foundry thing. They must all be cock-eyed workers in order to not be able to make square faced heads.

The SR-1 driver is the same; long as anything and forgiving, but closed face. If you care for such.

Par4QC I figure they see their target market as being mostly people who fight a slice.

I'm going to be on the lookout for 7-9-11 woods that don't want to sit closed. I'm guessing I'll be looking at Cally and Ping.

Another thing worth mentioning. The Acers are on the heavy side. With the 72 gram shaft, the 9 wood at 41 inches came out at D3 swingweight. The SR1 is heavy too. I removed the weight and covered the port for now, just to be able to play it at 42 inches, also D3. I know the shaft is a part of it.
