DonM Also, some woods seem to sit differently on a soft surface than they do on the gauge plate.
When I'm looking at the heads in the store, I will grab a shaft and stick it in the hosel, then set the head on the floor, addressing it as if I'm going to swing it. ALL of those Acer heads heads were closed faced; the SR1 fw heads weren't too bad. Just looked at them Monday. There was another brand, '888' or something, and surprisingly, all the heads set square. But they were those lousy wide body/pancake heads. Not for me, in a fw club.
There can be no manipulation when the shaft is loose in the hosel. And the floor is hard/flat.
