Weather proof the outdoor storage shed. It'll save a lot of headache.

In a previous house I used an outdoor storage shed as workshop. Depending upon the zoning restrictions where you live you don't need a cement floor. Lowe's or any number of pre-fab/built structures are fine. Make sure it is weather proof and has a decent roof. You might want to add gutters. Also, you will need to install electric - NOT an extension cord connected to house, add a circuit to your existing house system and run underground through conduit. If you live in a Northern climate you will want to insulate and add a heat source - propane or kerosene - and make sure you have decent ventilation, an open window or actually vent the heat source through roof. I just assembled a 12' x 8' shed from a kit earlier this summer, and it WOULD make a nice workshop. Living in Northern Ohio, I would need to insulate and heat it, but it does have plenty of room. My actual workshop is in a separate room in my basement, about 12 x 12. I have two ten foot workbenches that I joined together in one
corner to make an L shaped bench. The room would provide plenty of space if it weren't for all the old clubs, shafts,
etc that I have stored in a few old tour bags (bought them at a club-swap for only a few bucks....make great club
storage, except I have way too many clubs now!)

My brother, while living in a mobile home, had one as his woodworking shop. Don't remember the exact size, but around 6x8, and it seemed roomy enough. He ran an extension cord from the house for power instead of doing any wiring.

We looked at a house last night and I am most likely going to put an offer in today. Garage was just over 550 sq ft which will allow me room for my workbench setup. I'll probably invest in an outdoor shed big enough to store some older bags and shafts to help keep the garage less congested. House is with walking distance of an inexpensive little city course with 27 holes, driving range, and a bowling alley haha.

I think Spuzz showed you exactly how little space you really need. I don't have a dedicated spot at the moment, it's on the winter to do list ( probably 6 winters from now) but I have storage totes with the basic supplies and then an old microwave cart I made into a temporary work bench one day, which still gets used as my bench haha. I can set up a club at a time in a vice or shaft puller and get it done. Ideal for mass production? No. Adequate for a shaft change and re grip? Oh yeah. I'm going to ask santa for one of the Home Depot special, Husky work bench/tool chest combos with adjustable height work bench. Mount a vice to the end of the bench, put all the crap in the drawers and call it good. For shaft storage a 4 inch PVC pipe with a flat cap will hold a lot of shafts in one spot and easily kept upright with a strap of your choice. If you are a real ho, get an 8 foot length and cut it in 3 pieces, now you have quite the set up. Also the concrete tube forms work well.
