Played the back nine twice again, CPO. I shouldn't have talked about my putter here, I jinxed it. Did not putt very well today. 83 with 6 greens and 34 putts. Nothing special to report.
How did you shoot today at Golf
I played yesterday and today, It's been a while since I've played two days in a row.
Yesterday I shot 48/46 which is a stroke or two above my average. My drives were all over the place but that wasn't getting me in trouble. My putting, which usually is decent, was terrible. I 4 putted the first hole and it didn't get much better after that. It could have been a decent round...that's golf.
Today I played again with 3 friends that are new to golf or getting back into it. We just played a 2 man scramble, switching teams every 6 holes. Not great golf but fun. Beer and sandwiches at a local brewey afterwards.
Got involved in a 4 man team scramble. We were a man short, so the 3 of us rotated who would take the extra ball. Had 3 nice clean hits with my 60, all 3 hits flew 90 yards. Hit a nice 8 iron downhill, into the wind, to 10' from 150. Had a 20 yard chip roll the edge of the cup and change course.
We tied with both teams at -3...
Got out of work early enough for a very slow 9 holes in near perfect weather.
Parred the first five holes and had a downhill 4-footer for par on 6 that I left short!
Seven was a disaster, with a drive that went left into the junk, an approach that was wide of the green by about 20 yards, and a double-chip. Yikes. Felt a little bit like Nelly on Thursday for a second.
On 8 I hit a drive in the center of the fairway, missed the green left but not by much, and failed to get up and down. On 9 I hit a nice drive, leaving me 80 yards slightly uphill, right into the sun. Hit a ball and never saw it. Felt ok. Dropped another ball just for fun and hit it. Never saw that one, either.
When I got up to the green area, I found that the first one flew the green long. The second one was about 15 feet from the flag. It was a tap-in par from the second ball. I tried Texas wedging the real ball when I probably should have chipped. Ended up nine feet past the hole and missed the par putt low by about two inches.
Overall, though, a decent outing other than the 7th hole. Had a good time, and, as I said before, the weather was fantastic. I know that won't last.
Maybe Par4qc can chime in on putting and new tech putters. I know he was raving about his Lab putter. I mentioned him trying a few rounds with his old putter. Since he was in a groove it’s be a good time to compare.
I putted what I consider bad the other day. Missing 8 footers left and right side. Found that my eyes were not over the ball. No new tech putter is going to correct that.
Typhoon This is how we play during our annual golf rally with my old AF buddies.,
Shot an 88 today at a course that's a lot of fun. Hugely sloped place with tough to read greens. I made birdies won skins and money but wasn't thrilled. I 3 putted 7? Times and just struggled around the greens. Also lost a ball on 18 just off the fairway. Meh
What a tournament day! After a hectic week with no sleep I think I crashed. I shot an absolutely terrible 54 on the front nine!
To give you an idea how out of it I was I hit a good drive that took a bounce just into the right rough. We drive to our balls and the guy parks in the middle of the fairway between both our balls. I see my ball sitting there in the light rough, calculate the distance from there, grab a club and head over. I then proceed to hit another guy's ball that is IN the fairway! I knew my ball was in the rough I had just looked at it and figured a distance and still hit another guy's ball! Hello 2 stroke penalty.
Then a few holes later as I'm over my tee shot I hear what sounds like some kind of crazy bird right near me. It's making this bleating noise over and over. I try to ignore it and time my swing in between bleats and of course it goes off right in the middle of my downswing and I hit it sideways into the brush. I turn around and it's the littlest fawn I've ever seen like two feet behind me. I mean it was literally the size of a medium dog. I easily could have picked it up and carried it off. No mother to be seen which isn't a good sign for the poor kid. Don't know when deer stop nursing but this one looked like it might still need to nurse. Nobody bothered to warn me it was coming up behind me but they got a good laugh after.
I did down copious amounts of caffeine on the back and managed a small rally for a 40 for a final tally of 94. Oh and did I mention it rained the entire front nine? What a day.
4 over 75 at Timber Greens. One birdie. Solid ball striking continues. Putting was fantastic.

Played yesterday and it was not good. Again.
41-43/84.
Every shot was short for some reason, even Jake's were; except for some drives. I'm short of GIRs anyway, but was shorting every chip/pitch on top of it. Tried putting a few from off the fringe but that didn't work well either. FW clubs came up short also. Escaping with a low 80s was a blessing, it seems.
This course is normally dry, hard, and fast and was expecting to see some real bombs on the long Par 5 holes. But, when we got in the clubhouse I noticed a sign that said 90* and rough only. WTH? Once we got on the 1st FW we found out why. Wet, mud, standing water in some areas, inc. teeing areas. Had no clue it had rained there, and would never have gone knowing such. Never had a drop at my place, nor was any forecast for the area. Then again, they've had 3-4" of snow when I got none, in the winter. Only 17 mi. away.
We'll try the place again in July. IF it ever stops raining every other day.
Sneakylong Solid ballstriking and fantastic putting are hard to beat!
Back nine twice, CPO, same old story. The front nine is SO flooded, I hope it can recover. And it is pouring again as I type this.
40 with 1 green and 13 putts
38 with 7 greens and 18 putts
Each nine included a birdie, and a missed two footer. Both of them missed left so I'm assuming I decel'd. Frick. But I sunk several medium to long putts. It's always something.
Full swing was excellent throughout the bag. I really, really have to take some time to work on the partial wedges though. Boy oh boy.
We made money today. The teams were loaded with good hardcore players today, so scores were low across the board. Our foursome had 3 of us in the 70s.
44/41 today. I drove the ball well but missed a lot of greens from 100-130 and then failed to get up and down for par. Five gir on the day but, shockingly, 3 birdies. All 3 in the 18-25 foot range. First time I've ever made birdies on the first and last holes. It was nice having nothing worse than a double on the card, too.
