DonM makes it a lot easier to line the ball up quickly

I never, ever, use any mark or any alignment that may be on the ball....name/number/etc.. I turn the ball white-side up.
I consider myself a very good putter.😉

My thought on doing that is 'concentration'. Much like I believe a young person starting out should use an older driver head, smaller than 400cc.

      Par4QC kinda like takin' a knife to a gun fight or carryin' less than 14 clubs to me. I don't know if you remember or paid attention, but our buddy Muff does the same thing you do and he's a pretty good putter as well.

        I don't line up my putts with a part of the ball, either. For me it takes too long. And what if you get it lined up wrong? I just look at the putt from behind, then address the ball and stroke the putt. No practice strokes, no alignment aid, nothing. And I'm one of are best putters at the course. I rarely three putt, and everybody wants me on their scramble team because if I can see a line a couple of times, I jar a lot of long putts.

          I can't sit and study my putts, if I look at it too long, I over think I all and screw it up. I seem to work best when I just walk up, glance at it all, and hit my putt. I don't line up anything on the ball, hard the time I don't even adjust the ball. Make sure it's clean, set it back down and putt. On the practice green, I can't sit and hit a bunch of putts either. I'll hit a dozen or so more to see about getting the speed figured out. I'll start with a few 3' putts, and after that see about going out to 20' breaking putts. I know that is most of what I'll be looking at in my round, so I hit 6 or so of those and maybe a few longer uphill ones if possible. Then, ilk stand around and wait for everyone else I'm playing with...

          Well, the tournament I played in a week ago, I carded a 93. Seeing how it was a best ball tournament, I ended up winning a little money.
          I'm going to figure that the score they posted for me is after handicap adjustments.

              That's me. I can't line it up right getting down there like that.

                I always shake my head when I see a ball that has say the model of the ball on the side instead of it being white and some knucklehead has a line drawn through the name🙄🙄… couldn’t use the name as the line?

                  Both of you have reminded me of how I used to putt back when I was a decent putter. I never used any sort of alignment aid, but chose a path for the putt and then consciously set my putter face perpendicular to that path. Somewhere along the way I stopped with the consciously part and also lost my confidence in putting. Don't know if there is any correlation in those or not, but certainly can't hurt to try again what worked well for me in the early years.

                      VigilanteTrail You could just not pay attention to the line on the ball. I don’t. I set the ball down only so I don’t have the name and number looking up at me. The line or model could be askew but I’m not paying attention to that.

                      When you’re hitting your tee shot, do you aim the line on the ball down the middle of the fairway? NO. In the fairway the line could be pointed anywhere and you’re fine…

                          Played 9 indoors on Caledonia and shot -4. Sucked off the tee too. I hit sooo many balls inside with a 7 iron that when I grab a driver my stance width stays the same and I’m awful. Finally remembered afterwards to widen my driver stance🙄

                              Typhoon 3 rounds, I had to just quit and walk off the course.
                              Could not see the line for the 2nd shot. I wasn't about to take a penalty for unplayable; I'd rather quit 1st!!

                                Today was very windy. I shot 83 with 5 greens and 31 putts. I fatted several fairway woods, and irons weren’t great. My club selections versus the wind direction were mostly wrong. But I got the short game back on track using the method in that article I linked the other day, combined with a super fat sole, high bounce wedge. On the soft dormant lies, that wedge makes a huge difference.

                                Our team kicked ass and won big. The wind ate up a lot of the players.
                                Our scores were upside down. 🙃

                                Those are gross, not net. The C player turns 81 in May. The D player is 90!

                                Typhoon I do that. It's just how I mark my ball so I can identify it. I use green marker.
