How did you shoot today at Golf

I played today for the first time in a month. A beautiful but breezy day. I started out great, 6 pars and 2 bogeys on the first 8 holes. I started think that I might have a chance tp break 80 for the first time ever. Of course, the next 2 holes were terrible. I ended up with a 42 on the front. I ended up with 92 which is about average but it was disappointing. I only missed one fairway all day but it didn't feel like I was getting much distance.

CPO started November 1, so the round was a bit slow.

Walterjn Ya know what’s funny is I just heard about Tigers “Simulator Tour”. Boston has a team… nobody from Boston, I think it’s tour players though. But I’d be right there for that.

Typhoon shit, see what requirements there are... if you have to apply and tryout, I'd think you'd be good to go. Rangefinder might not work too well there..

Thank you Walter. You're way too kind. Seriously, the courses here are very friendly (scoring-wise) if you are accurate off the tee and sharp with the short game. Two of us shot 74 today (par 70), and our lowest hdcp player typically breaks 70.

Today I played river course at the alisal again.
It was a good day, and I've had a fun time.
52/48-100. I started solo, and on the back 9 I joined a pair. Turns out they started playing about a year and a half ago. We just had a good time, and cheered each other's good shots. He is from LA, and she is from the bay area.

Did anyone catch Kuchar’s horrible finish yesterday? That was me today. On 15, 16, and 17 I went +7. I hit OB and penalty areas on three straight full swings.

40/47 for 87. We played a few hundred yards back of my usual combo. Only 5 GIR. 30 putts with no three putts. The steel shafted irons were solid but I didn’t know the yardages. I actually hit over a few greens. They fly high but don’t seem to spin much.

80 at Timber Greens. Had one birdie. First out at 7:00. Just an exquisite morning for golf.

I shot 38/40 today, one off my personal best. BUT it was 5,000 yards, par 70. I played with 3 guys in their 80s and they wanted all 4 of us to play the same tees. They offered to come back to the whites for me, but I moved up to the forward tees.

It was a blast! I hit my 16* hybrid off most tees, and a couple 5-irons and 3-woods. I hit driver on the longest par 5 and two short par 4s that I thought I could drive or come close. My drive was was right in front of the green on both of those par 4s and I ended up bogeying them both, lol.

The putter was up and down. I had four 1-putt pars and two birdies, but also four 3-putt bogeys. Nothing higher than a bogey on the card, though. It was a reminder that short approach shots make a huge difference for me.

MidwayJ So you moved up a tee box but basically put the driver in the bag and hit shorter clubs off the tee that would put you out at the saw distance. But… probably in the fairway so you played better. Weird huh? I’ve moved up to the front of the white tee box, tees off with a 7 iron instead of driver and shot close to what I would normally shoot.

On most holes I was still hitting shorter approach shots than usual, even using shorter clubs off the tee. Plus 3-4 drivers that got me way closer. And all the par 3s were between 90 and 110 yards. So it was a combination of no really wayward tee shots, shorter approach shots, and a better than average ball striking day overall.

Well, I didn't play today. However, I did go to the range, and for the first time in 2 months I was actually hitting my short irons straight instead of pulling everything 10 yards left. It was very exciting. It won't last, but I enjoyed it for 1 day.

Golf is already hard. Why not get some back? I've convinced a number of my hard-headed buddies that there's no shame in moving up to our red/white combo tees (8 holes red, 10 holes white). They're having fun again.

Since moving up to the senior tees, I still try to play the course at 5400-5600, which based on my 150 club, is the
'recommended distance' for me. Sometimes this means moving back and playing the white tees on a < 300 yard
par 4. I find myself hitting a LOT more irons (6-9 irons) into greens as opposed to hybrids-fairway woods.

I don't play much any more with my younger former co-worker who insists on nothing under 6,400 yards, but I'm not ready to play as far up as I did today on a regular basis. Lack of skill is more of an issue for me than hitting it too short. It was a fun change of pace, though, to experiment with what to hit off the tee, etc. I would definitely be receptive to playing shorter tees on difficult courses, too.

He's not one who thinks he needs to play the tips, but there's a point where he thinks it's too short. I guess he thinks he'll be forced to hit fewer drivers. I can get him to play shorter but I have to push.
