Walterjn Yeah it’s funny when you come across Midway J’s people. So go ahead and hit your driver on a short hole. Then you get to work on getting wedge close, or how to play those 3/4 shots so you get them tight for birdie. Or if you find when you play like I do, I don’t hit much more than a 9 iron unless it’s a long par 3. That’s when you use the short course as an opportunity to work on your mid irons by hitting them from the teeing area. And remember, you don’t have to hit the bal off a tee just because you are on the tee box.
Most people have blinders on and it’s why they don’t improve.
Today was one of those days where everything went right. 33-37-70 at White Pines Golf Club in Swanton, Oh,
tying my personal best. Three birdies, one chip-in, and 24 putts, my best-ever on the greens. My only bogey
was on the 18th, the toughest hole on the course for me, and I KNEW that I needed to make par to break 70. Oh
well.....not complaining....I'll take a score like that anytime!!
I shot 37/40 for 77. On the front nine I was a Putting God. I had 13 putts. I was -1 after 7 but then three jacked #8. Back nine putting was back to normal, including 2 more three putts. I had 3 birdies overall.
My new steel shaft irons have been amazing. I should have done this a long time ago. I’m hoping I don’t get pain at some point.
One of my partners had an ace. He’ll win $525 from the pool.
Took a trip to a course about an hour south of me, just outside the Outer Banks of North Carolina, for 18 holes today ('The Carolina Club'). Weather was nice, although there was a 1- to 2-club wind throughout, increasing in the afternoon.
Anyway, I started off slowly, with bad putting and a few bad shots. Only hit three greens on the front nine and made the turn at 42.
Played much better on the back. Hit 5 of 7 fairways and hit 7 greens en route to a 37.
The greens were very fast and it took me about 10 holes to really get the hang of them.
All in all, though, a great day on the links.
Walterjn I don't bother to add anything up until after my round.
Yeah, me too! I remember when I coached the high school golf team I had two twin brothers who would always
add them up on the last tee, then screw up that hole b/c they were excited / nervous about what their final
score would be! I used to harp at them all the time NOT to do that, usually to no avail. The difference yesterday
was that I was playing way better than usual, so I couldn't help but know what I was shooting and what I needed!
Good thing we weren't playing for money....!!!
Another beautiful day in Missouri. 83* when we finished. I shot 89 which is good for me. I thought about quitting after 9 because my partner invited another twosome to join us on the second hole. They were slow and and kept walking in front of me when I was trying to play. It was very distracting. It was better on the back nine, but I wouldn't want to play with them again.
