I wouldn't worry too much about it. It probably didn't bother him at his age.
I play with my sons/grandson, and typically 'beat them' on scores. It really means nothing, at least to me, but I know it gets to them sometimes. It shouldn't. But we have good fun ribbing one another both ways; when they beat me and vice versa. It's why we play...fun times together.
I play mostly Sr. tees, and they play reg. tees. Even though I'm 20 yds ahead, they still hit it past me by 100 sometimes.
