Anybody watching Driver versus Driver?

Anybody besides me hooked on this show? For those who don't know, Wilson sponsored a contest/reality show asking people to submit a driver design. They bro...

I wanted to watch it originally but didn't remember when it was on. By the time I remembered it was on I then had also heard what the show actually was about... and was no longer interested. Just from the name of the show, not knowing anything more about it, I thought/hoped it would be a comparison of actual drivers (both current models and older models) to determine which model (s) seemed to work best for the largest number of golfers. I know, it's never going to happen because none of the companies would sponsor a show that may possibly pick an older model as being better than what they are now offering.

I agree with a lot of the comments, but I thought this week's episode was really quite interesting, especially when they showed the actual manufacturing steps in the making of a driver. Also I thought it was cool that they took the prototypes and actually went out and hit them, and they showed the numbers. They also had golfers with different swing speeds and abilities hit them. If they had spent more time on that segment it would've been even better, but I found it interesting.

I DVR it so I can fast-forward through the crappy parts.

As far as getting a conforming head is concerned, the newbies were almost immediately sent to work with seasoned designers that work at Wilson, and all the computer modeling was done pretty much by the experts. So Wilson knew that they would get a conforming driver because only the basics of it came from the newbies actual design; the tweaking was all done by pros.

I thought the manufacturing stuff was really interesting as well. I had no idea how they were actually made and was genuinely interested in that.

Plus, Harrington has the best accent, so hearing his input was extra entertaining.

I just hate when Harrington says " aaahhhh"...its like scratching nails down a chalkboard. rest of him talking is ok.

I had no less than 3 people call me to design a Driver for this show! True story. I told them that "Wilson in charge of the choosing?" LOL Or even as a Sponsor...they must be DOA and desperate for virtually anything.........Jezzzzz! Must make their R&D people feel real good. My goodness

Now that would be "reality tv"...lol

Serious side though - why destroy a brand (Almo) that you have worked so hard for.

Pretty clear who the winner will be imo....I don't see wilson going with team long beach design....it looks like a power play caiman clone; the one with the white streak as an alignment aide looks good, but wilson just seems too traditional to me to go with this one, so that leaves the one that looks the most traditional at address and has the adjustable sole plate thingamajig, that bent when it was being demo'd by some of the big break contestants, but they all liked it the most and seemed to get the best #'s with it.

They seem to have made some in roads with the soft/low compression ball market, with the fifty and duo, but most everything else seems like a dud, especially their drivers.

Rob and Ty....about 6 or 7 years ago I told Mike "let's design a head together" and I think I told him under the T&A name........LOL T&A brand using our 2 last name initials. But, at that time I think he hated my guts...lol! I just wanted to shake things up a bit. Between the 2 of us we could have ruled the component World with our design....for a short time anyway...

T&A Brand Golf....now you just know Spuzz would wear that T-Shirt...LOL

Typhoon, when I started playing golf I don't know if there were other choices besides forged blades. My first sets were all Wilson Staff Tour Blades.

One thing is sure; you knew when you hit those babies off center.

No kidding right!!!! People today are spoiled. I swear we are better ball strikers because of them as well. Same with the small driver heads.

I thought when TGC came out with that show in which the contestants hit shots and then ran to the next ball was an all time low but they continue to surprise me. Filling a channel with golf 24/7 is a tough and quality programming suffers.

I would have thought of Streelman or Harrington...someone that knows something about golf.

Well, those guys were all competitors at the Century tournament. Some of them are very good golfers.

I was disappointed that they got rid of team long beach. I liked their design best. I could see a superficial similarity to the Caiman, but their driver was much more refined and cool looking. I want one of those prototypes!

Oh the things I miss by not watching TV. I would have loved to be a contestant. I could have taken all the designs I liked over the years and mashed it all together and called it "Snake Oil" or maybe more aptly the "455-O-Matic dot com LTD Pro" oh and obviously I will follow up with an LST version in a month. boom done, I win.

After reading about the winner, and seeing that horrific design, I feel justified about my thoughts of this show going to be a crap show, and the fact that 'Mr. Nobody Designer' has a chance to win.

The winner............employed by Dick's Sporting Goods....... as the club designer/engineer of their Nickent brand!! A somewhat shocking win............no, wait.......

What a crock of shit. And don't even try to tell me it was not a set up from the gitgo. This is why I watch very little, if any TV any more.....shows that fucking insult my intelligence.

btw.....on sale now for only $449!! And looks like total crap. Wilson should be ashamed; probably the next one to bite the dust. Hopefully.

I thought it was really odd that GC had a commercial aired for the new Wilson Triton driver,
before the winner was announced.
