Typhoon LBlack14 ya think?! They sort of just blend in together. There's almost NO sand in them...less than an inch. And the size of the rocks in there. Today I saw 2 rocks when I was walking up to one of the greens, had to be he size of baseballs. I threw them in the woods.
Typhoon I drove by a course off the highway and it was like a green carpet. I was shocked, it was like I forgot what a golf course is supposed to look like. Makes my place more challenging.
Typhoon LBlack14 No tee time sorta of. The guys I play with for years now have 3 days a week so I get in on that. All the other 9 holers are too short. been playing here forever. Its a dump but when I get a nice course... time to rip it up
johnnydoom Typhoon I was going to bring the camera and take pictures of the 9 hole pasture I play tonight, but somehow this is the one day or so a year I walked out of the house without my phone. Maybe next week. Our muni looks like Augusta compared to those pics of yours right now, but its plenty rough. Way too short for you too. The one par 5 is only 430 yards. It's a 3 shot hole anyway with a 90 degree dogleg at 300 yards through a line of trees, but you could probably cut the dogleg over the trees and its probably only 320 on the fly. All the other holes (4 par 4's, 4 par 3's) are comparatively short.
Typhoon We just try to find grass to hit off of. Some of the traps you can't hit out of, all the sand is at the top and you can see the dirt at the bottom of the trap. Greens can be a crap shoot. Nice the first 2 weeks of the year, then an early aeration early April destroyed them like it does every year. The holes are huge and they are still bumpy as of yesterday. If u can get them right after a cut you can make a few putts, if not...crapshoot like I said.
sdandrea1 My home course in VA. The Gauntlet. P.B. Dye (Dye-a-bolical) design. Elevated, undulating, well bunkered greens, lots of forced carries and awesome Zoysia fairways.......and a 200yd par3 (from the regular tees).
Typhoon After Steve's lovely pics, you'll want to throw up in your mouth looking at these from today. First one is our 5th hole. I hit 4.5 wood to the middle of the fairway. Next one to 8 feet for birdie. This is the tee box on #6...
Sparky Oak Quarry in Riverside, CA. And I didn't even take a pic of their signature hole #14. Google that one.
Mattyv Sparky One of my favorite SoCal courses I have played. I will be out there again in late August/September and will play again. Another one in the area I liked and will play again is Hidden Valley. I may hit you up and see if you want to play.
Sparky Sparky Adding to my Jun 10 post....made it back to Oak Quarry and took a couple of pics of the signature #14, 195 yards. My well struck 4 iron ended up just left of the big rock. Yep, only 50 yards left of target.
sdandrea1 Typhoon C'mon man, Sparky's place looks a lot like your course. It's got fairways and greens and stuff........
Typhoon sdandrea1 The shit between the tee and the fairway at Sparkys course is what we call " fairway" at my course.
KCee Typhoon Come visit CT and I'll take you to my club. It's not fancy, but it is green! First hole is probably driveable for you too!
