I thought it was odd as well. But as we know Peyton gets away with what others wouldn't.
Peyton Manning's "Budweiser" mentions
Landon: Papa John's is far from wonderful (I'd rather buy a frozen pizza) but the prize for worst franchise pizza has already been claimed by Little Caesar's
As far as Peyton's post game comments, I thought they were obviously rehearsed. He made the comments to the female sideline reporter and then repeated those comments when prompted by Jim Nance to share his thoughts with the fans at the stadium who did not hear the comments made to the TV sideline reporter.
When I heard him in the first interview right after the game..."I have a few prioirities, find the wife and kids and give them a hug and kiss, have a few Budweisers"...I thought nothing of it.
Then later at the podium he says it again,..." have a few prioirities, find the wife and kids and give them a hug and kiss, have a few Budweisers" I'm saying to myself, " this guy had this as a prepared speech!"...He actually PRACTICED saying that.
Funny thing was, on the podium, his friggin kids were right in front of him...not too hard to find.
Best part of the telecast...the look on Eli Manning's face when Peyton threw the 2 point conversion pass. DUH......................................................Must have lost a boatload of money on it.
My buddy and I were all over his original Bud Light comment.
“What’s weighing on my mind is how soon I can get a Bud Light in my mouth.”
Now we always say to each other "Omaha!!"
Which means:
“What’s weighing on my mind is how soon I can get a Bud Light in my mouth.”

Jeez, give the man a break. He is tired, beaten up and is experiencing probably the last big hoorah of his career. And he is doing this in front of the world. He didn't say that he was going out partying and ho chasing until dawn. He is going home to kiss his wife and kids and throw down lots of beer. He earned that. People wanting to make more out of him using the Budweiser name are just trying to stir up shit. If that doesn't work I guess they will just jump on the PED's bandwagon. Get a life people.
And I am a Manning fan. Those who aren't will continue to bash.
I think it might have something to do with him "subtly" disclosing (undetected by most people) that he's not coming back next season. That, and maybe just an uncharacteristic (albeit small) F-U to the Goodell establishment, and the fact that Budweiser deserved a prop because they've obviously paid him handsomely over the years to endorse their product.
And it was his stage, for a brief moment... to connect with people who are down-to-earth and don't spend $5 of their income on a bottle of expensive craft beer.
Either way, I don't hold it against him any more than Beyonce dressed like an internet porn actress in the halftime show. (which, btw, I'm not totally against either!)
Much ado about nothing, except maybe the outside notion that it was a subversive hint that he's done playing football.
I think it was very sad that Peyton used that platform to promote beer drinking...and lots of it, implying a little overindulgence. Kids, and lots and lots of them are watching him looking up to him. Great...help play a role in a new generation of lushes. I'm disappointed he rehearsed his message and used a platform as big as that to promote BUDWEISER. All the things a person could do with a stage that big and that is what he chose? Disappointed. Peyton presents well... I wonder if he isn't the prickish little immature kid who had issues with the female trainer at TN and never grew up but just hid it well.
How dare he stray from the Official Book of Sports Cliches!!! More proof that people will whine about everything and anything. (Bud) Lighten up.
Could have said he was getting back to Denver as soon as possible to light bud.
I read somewhere that he may be part owner in a Budweiser distributorship or two. Don't know if it's true or not and don't really care. I was kind of thinking it might be a sly reference to all the celebrating the Panthers have been doing all season, implying that the time to celebrate is after the work is done.
He does own a percentage in a few Budweiser distributors in Loiusiana, I believe. Of course he had a rehearsed speech. Bet he had one for if they lost, too. And if it was a jab at Goddell for his hypocritical garbage (Bud is one of the NFL's biggest sponsors and always has been...what is he going to do?), promotes his own business interest (Peyton "GD" Manning has always been the corporate shill), and jabs Carolina about celibrating the win, why, that is 3 for 3. I thought it was funny as heck, and a lot better than "I am going to Disneyland"
And like Spuzz, I give the guy credit for putting his huge ego aside and Dilfering his way to his second Super Bowl.
I found it all offensive and inappropriate...mostly because Bud is such a lousy beer and Papa Johns is bad pizza. That's a recipe for a long session on the throne. If next Manning starts shilling for Immodium I'm going to be very suspicious.
At least he didn't say,"We're going to Disney World"!
What he should've said.
I can't wait to get some Papa John's pizza and wash it down with several Budweisers and if I happen to get in an accident I'm covered by Nation Wide.
Mountains out of mole-hills - it was harmless. Move along, please....................
It is ironic that one of the biggest sponsors of the NFL is beer. Yet they have a policy of not letting the players mention beer. Not the only screwed up policy the NFL has I might add.
Yes, Peyton has owneRship interests in two Anheiser Busch distributors in Louisiana.
