I guess I'm not up on my knowledge of messaging. Is there a specifically understood meaning behind a denim patterned hat with a part of the flag displayed and the slogan on it, and who designed it? I googled it and all it comes up with are places that sell it, so if it is common knowledge apparently Google doesn't know about it or is suppressing it.

Ack8236 As far as I can figure, this is just a another mind-reading, dog whistle exercise. I'm no rocket scientist for sure, but none of those things point me to some obvious nefarious movement and I can't even seem to get a search engine to gin something up on it. At least tell me who the designer is so I can start from there?

Agreed, that was the intent....which should be obvious with some thought. There are both good and bad things from the America ( the anywhere for that matter) of the past. It was a simpler time but also not without its warts.

That said, I do believe that Rex posted the meme with no malice intended.

The only critique I would have is that in posting such a meme perhaps one should have known that it would be a political magnet . If we are trying to keep politics out of the discussions here, throwing our two political trolls a bone like this doesn't help matters. Then again, they likely will find a way to get their shots in no matter what.

But yes, they are just an innocent "childhood nostalgia" site, not an overtly right wing extremist group who is burying EXACTLY what meaning I said into that hat.... like I said, it's a KKK robe for people who want one but lack the guts to actually wear one in public . Me too. I just saw a hat with a phrase about being nostalgic about things from my/our youth. I'm not sure who's fault it is that I don't know the hidden implications behind it (whether real or not). Does anyone really think that EVERYTHING is better now? Or better yet, does anyone not look back on even one aspect of their youth fondly? Hell, youth alone is a win. I'll also go with "back then, people weren't so easily offended from jumping (with both feet) to the wrong conclusions". 😜

Though, in truth, I've seen the offense card played so often in recent years, often over things so trivial (like obvious humor) ... my ability to care has become dulled. Particularly when people take offense for others, or when only .01% of a particular group took offense? At that point, what is more likely ... that the issue is with the offender or the offended?

Bottom line: I'm not going to research everything I come across to seek out some hidden meaning presumed by someone I don't even know. And if I do know them, I probably wouldn't wear the hat in their company ... but I would still wear it, as I would only feel the need to be respectful of that person, but not their interpretation.

Walterjn Having seen ads for the History of the World Part II on Hulu, the wife and I decided to watch the original Part I (which pre-dates us by 2 years.) Loved it! We are now 1/2 way through the new Part II which is an 8 part show. Gotta say, I’ve been missing out. Mel Brooks is a genius! What else should I check out of his stuff?
