Just because there is no one on the green in front and no one behind, does
not mean one guy should hold up your group. Geez - we bitch about
slow play all the time, do your fishing when your by yourself! The way some
of them guys out there look for balls you would think they are worth $10 a pop!

Have a ball retriever based on recommendation of fellow players. Seems we have a lot of poison oak, etc just off the fairway/rough in areas. The retriever allows for retrieving the ball in these areas.

Once in awhile it see use to fish a ball out of creeks.

My retriever is in my bag and I use a hybrid head cover to disguise it, looks like just another club in the bag.

(Most likely) being the poorest member here, I will not walk into any woods to look for a ball. And I will not help you look for yours. Ball in pond?....it's lost, unless I can see it within a club's length. Cost is irrelevant. No time for 'fishing', and I do tolerate well the 'fishing' of others. Nor your long walks in the woods. I'm out to play golf. And I play balls that are consistent with my abilities. You should also. IYNWIM

I have one but don't use it when playing with a group. When I'm out by myself it helps me kill time waiting for groups in front of me. I'll use it in a group to get another guy's ball if it's easy.

I find so many balls just walking in the rough line, I never go in the woods. Plus there is the tick factor.

Anyone with a ball retriever needs to have it attached to their sack and dragged around in the water hazard like they have been water boarded.

I have used one in late evening casual rounds when I'm walking and have the course to myself. I give the foundlings to my son, SILs, and grandsons. I'm not sure where it is, tho.

Got one. But not in bag. Don't need it. Better to carry another club. Good ones are hard to find.
In my experience with other players in my foursome, it can speed up play, but there is always that one guy who wants to go fishing for balls. That slows play down.

Most found balls I just use my putter to pick up as I'm walking.

I carry one, use it occasionally. Never use it if there is someone behind me. If the course is empty and I'm not in a hurry, I might use it to dig out some shag bag balls and occasionally find a new premium ball to toss in the bag.

Again, nothing wrong with having one when you need it. Just have to be smart and courteous as to when you pull it out.

Oh, and I don't think I have witnessed someone slowing down play using one at the course I generally play.

If I'm just grabbing my ball, its really no different than going into the woods to grab an Unplayable/OB ball. The 'sometimes' above relates to going beyond your ball because you start seeing many of them, and going beyond the time limit - that most do not seem to realize changed to THREE minutes.
