Agree about the setup. The greens are so small and sloped that they can easily become yet another black eye for the USGA if they try to flex their muscles just the least bit. The course has been fairly receptive so far and although the wind will pick up a little this weekend - I'm guessing they'll err on the side of caution as it relates to firmness and speed.

It's worth noting that Mike Davis isn't involved with the course setup this year... that doesn't mean there's not plenty of time left to screw it up royally, but I would guess that the only real obstacle they're hoping to avoid at this point revolves around the rules.

      Rickie threw in his stinker round (77) on Friday, pretty much taking him out of any chance to win.

        Woodland is sooooooo solid. I think Koepka is making a subtle move. If he's hanging around by tomorrow, look out!

          Woodland has only two bogeys over 54 holes. That's crazy good. Rose is comfortable with his game and it shows.

          And who's to say that it's a 3-man race... we've seen crazier things happen on Sunday in a US Open. I think it'll be highly unlikely that Woodland holds onto the lead from start to finish tomorrow.

          But every guy with a realistic chance of winning Sunday knows precisely how good Koepka is in this situation. He's the guy everybody is thinking they have to beat when they put a peg in the ground on that first tee. And they're probably correct.

          I wouldn't put it past him to go lights out tomorrow.

          Woodland is merely overdue for any win. Today will show how big his balls really are. He has played well, and been a bit lucky this week, and seems to be unfazed by it being a "major". A lot of those white pants wearers will have stains in the rear today; I doubt Gary will be one of them.

              I like both Rose and Woodland. Both nice guys. I'm sure a lot of people are rooting for Woodland after showing the clip on how he treated the girl with Down Syndrome at the Waste Management Tournament. Played golf with a Brit who had a beer with Rose and told me how nice of a guy Rose is.

                  If Gary Woodland doesn't finish the deal today, it isn't because of the fire that has been in his belly since he began playing competitive sports. This short article on his sports background is interesting and Lynn Riney, his high school golf coach, and I have teed it up together on a few occasions on our respective clubs back in the day.

                  Interesting that only one player (Willie Anderson - 1903, 1904, 1905) in all the years of the tournament, has won the US Open three consecutive years. If Brooks can somehow eke out a win today, he will certainly be in rarified air.

                  Don't care who wins, just hope to see some good golf and not one of those final rounds where the tournament is basically over midway through the back-nine.

                  I wanted Phil to win, knowing it wasn't likely. Now I'd really like to see history made and see Koepka win. Woodland would be good too but I have a feeling he ends up no better than third.

                    Phil winning the US Open would undoubtedly be the story of the year in golf. Sadly, at this stage of his career I just don't see it happening. Not impossible, but highly unlikely given his history and the fact that he just doesn't have the consistency off the tee in run-of-the-mill events, much less narrowed fairways that are typical of most US Opens. This week was his real last chance to get that feather in his cap imo. The course setup has been fair, on a layout that he's won tournaments on 5 different occasions. This tournament will be the glaring omission in an otherwise legendary career.

                    On a related note... at least he's not nosedived like Ernie Els has. His last win came six years ago on the European Tour, and I was somewhat surprised to see him ranked as high as he is currently - #348.
                    In 12 starts on the PGAT this year, he's only managed 12 rounds in the 60's, and he's either WD or missed the cut in half of them. But he's had a helluva career, nothing to hang is head about. Father Time has finally caught up with him.

                            Looking at the scores from those going out earlier and finished, or close to it, the course is there for the taking. One -5 and a -4 with one to go so far with many of the early players scoring better today. (The exception is Tiger +3 after 5). Someone is going to WIN it this afternoon by playing stellar golf and not necessarily is going to back into the Championship. Fasten your seat belts.
