thanks guys. I used a spinning wire brush wheel to try and smooth out the final finish. If you look real close, they're a bit rough........but good enough for the guy using them, yes.😉

RE: shaft color....................yeah, I get wild hare/hair now and then with color. 😎

sdandrea1 Use an old woodworkers trick....mix graphite dust into a bit of epoxy and smear it all over those ends, filling in any voids. Let it dry then sand it down. Finish sand with 400-600 grit wet/dry paper.
Just make sure the epoxy is completely colored with the dust.

Something like this will allow you to polish the shaft tip and club sole. Put it in a hand drill. Lock the hand drill in a vise thus making a polishing wheel from it. Be sure the wheel coming over the top when in the vise. Polish away.

Scotch bright wheel is the answer but they’re expensive. Scotch bright wheel and shine with acetone.

Reviving this thread in prep for my 2nd attempt at bore-thru iron shafting. I may leave the hosels narrow at the bottom. I like the idea of the snug fit. I bored the 6i hosel through to .370 and the shaft fit is fine, but.......
My collared ferrules and shaft bore pins are enroute, so all I can do now is prep the hosels and shaft tips.

These are very easy, LB. I clamp them in my rubber shaft clamp and run a 3/8" drill bit thru. Each head took me less than a minute. The top half of the hosel is already .370, so it guides the drill bit thru the little bit that needs to be widened. I went ahead and reamed them all this morning.

The more proper method is using a Golfworks reamer bit and turn it slowly with a handle. I've been using the 3/8" drill method forever.

If you use some oil and go slow it's not too bad. As soon as I hear it cutting, I back off the pressure a bit....but, yeah, you can boink your wrist a bit.

sdandrea1 So a 3/8 bit, oil and be careful, it is? The 7 iron in my NIW Nike Vapor Fly irons is from a fitting cart and shafted with a tapered shaft and adapter. I bought the set, minus a 7 iron. Need it reamed to fit with the matching shaft. I can't find a regular 7 iron anywhere.

As a machinist myself that looks pretty risky. If the drill grabs it could: 1. Break and send pieces flying. 2. Grab and cause bodily injury (wrist, elbow, etc.) 3. Grab and ruin the head itself. I know that in my lifetime I have drilled hundreds of thousands of holes.

I got lucky. The steel is fairly soft and the bit is sharp.

I would hold it in my precision ground custom made (by me) Vee Block, and then put it into a vise on my milling machine. Would get a perfectly straight and sized hole with safety.

If I thought I was going to do a lot of hosel reaming, I'd get or make some kind of fixture and a drill press, but you just can't find that stuff for $12...... 😁
