I watched it Sunday and clearly Phil wanted to keep playing, as would anyone who has a good round going with only a couple holes left to play. And he wasn't in the wrong to express that during the conversation with the tournament rules director. Casey would've been fine to continue on if he could actually see, but light was fading quickly and it was evident they weren't going to finish regardless before darkness. So he said that they might as well call it a day and finish up the following morning. And he wasn't in the wrong expressing his viewpoint, either.
But if you read the headlines of any number of sports articles that evening and Monday morning, you would've thought they'd nearly come to blows over their difference of opinion on the matter. And that clearly wasn't what was captured on television as they discussed it, or in the interview booth afterwards. I honestly didn't detect even the slightest hint of irritation from either of them.
Yet, Phil needlessly fell on the grenade Monday to turn a non story into a non story.
Everything's tabloid now. The days of distinguishing between the National Inquirer's, TMZ's, etc. of the world and the rest of the global media (including sports media) are so far gone it ain't even funny. They're all a bunch of click-craving shitweasels.
