Pebble Beach Win
- Edited
braveheart Still enjoy watching him play more than anyone else. Nice win.
Thrilled for Phil the Thrill, he is the most exciting player on tour IMO, how he is playing at such a high level, winning big and full field events just a few months shy of his 49th birthday and against kids 1/2 his age is truly Incredible . If his brain doesn’t get in the way , he has a very good chance at winning another major. He would already be the oldest player to do that.
When Phil is "on"...it's an awesome thing to watch. This final round was the best I can remember. Close to the final round dual he had with Stenson a couple years ago.
I really enjoyed the interview with Phil on the 18th green after he finished the tournament yesterday morning. He had time to sleep on the decision to postpone the finish until Monday. He admitted it was the right call by Mark Russell of the PGA and how he lives in a 'bubble' when he is in the hunt and trying to win a tournament. He said his 'bubble' doesn't allow him to take into account other opinions or options. I thought it was an introspective comment and had he realized this earlier in his career, may have allowed him to win at least two additional majors and tournaments.
Phil being Phil..........................still!
I watched it Sunday and clearly Phil wanted to keep playing, as would anyone who has a good round going with only a couple holes left to play. And he wasn't in the wrong to express that during the conversation with the tournament rules director. Casey would've been fine to continue on if he could actually see, but light was fading quickly and it was evident they weren't going to finish regardless before darkness. So he said that they might as well call it a day and finish up the following morning. And he wasn't in the wrong expressing his viewpoint, either.
But if you read the headlines of any number of sports articles that evening and Monday morning, you would've thought they'd nearly come to blows over their difference of opinion on the matter. And that clearly wasn't what was captured on television as they discussed it, or in the interview booth afterwards. I honestly didn't detect even the slightest hint of irritation from either of them.
Yet, Phil needlessly fell on the grenade Monday to turn a non story into a non story.
Everything's tabloid now. The days of distinguishing between the National Inquirer's, TMZ's, etc. of the world and the rest of the global media (including sports media) are so far gone it ain't even funny. They're all a bunch of click-craving shitweasels.
I was there Sunday.
sdandrea1 I don't know...Azzwipes are pretty bad, too...
PA-PLAYA - Phil probably understood the fallacy of even trying to finish Sunday as soon as he entered the locker room. Scott Piercy could have told him what a dip shit he was for just trying to finish that resulted in a 3 putt on 18. Then the reality of that 3 putt hit Piercy in the wallet when he learned it cost him $50,000 when the tour ponied up the payouts. Ouch.
I remarked to my wife that I noticed they were picking up the pace to try to finish on about 14. Then I saw lights on in a few windows of the homes lining the fairway on 15 and knew time was quickly running out. We've all been there trying to get to the clubhouse in the dark. Phil was sober.
There is no one I enjoy watching on the PGA tour more than Phil. However, I don't care who it is they need to be in contention on the weekend. I find it much more enjoyable to watch a rookie seeking his first win on the weekend than to see coverage of Tiger or Phil, etc ...... when they are hoping to make the top 20 at best.
As far as the press, if you actually read something from the media and believe you have the facts and truth of a situation, you are an idiot. You may think, well at least I saw pictures and the video. Probably, but did you know they will cut and edit video, represent pictures as being the scene or event when in fact they don't want to pay for what they need from another source or their crew missed their flight (I know of a situation where this was the case because the crew was at a bar and simply forgot they were in a different time zone - major network - prime time news show) so they look at what is available in their files or go down the street hundreds or even thousands of miles away to take pictures of a similar location. Fake news is not new, fake news has been around for a long time. I believe we see it exposed more today because of diverse political opinions, modern communication tools and the social media.
