It sure seemed strange to see Phil have a bogey free round.
Pebble Beach Win
Still enjoy watching him play more than anyone else. Nice win.
I admit I am a huge Phil fan. if that had been Tiger NBC would have broken in to programming with breaking news, Willing to bet that Phil will be on page 3 or 4 tomorrow in the USA Today paper. The saddest person today is Nancy Armour...a total Tiger apologist.
Chuck
Judging by his wayward tee shots, some of which were 30+ yards left of the fairway, no one could've imagined that he'd have won, let alone that he'd not card a single bogey. Phil being Phil, he just lives and dies by the mood of his flatstick.
Just when I think that maybe he no longer has the game to hang on for a couple more years - he digs deep and impresses the hell out of me. Those greens there are diabolical.... then you throw in the poa, how bumpy they get in the afternoon, etc... I can see why a lot of players avoid that tournament, the 6-hour round aside.

Could he two-peat later in the year for the career grand slam!/?
ode
I'd like to believe that he could.....BUT.....like he said in the post-round interview, Pebble Beach will be a totally different course when the USGA gets done with it! Long rough, hard, burned out greens, etc. The USGA likes
"straight" rather than "long." As much as I'll be rooting for Phil, that's not his game......
PA-PLAYA They were actually saying one of the rounds Phil hit every fairway. I wonder how pissed Callaway is that Phil went with the Rogue Subzero this week instead of the new Epic Flash subzero.
They are also making a big deal about his increase in swing speed. I'm surprised he didn't mention that he has been using the Super Speed clubs to increase his club head speed. Guess they aren't paying him enough to say something. It proves they work....there was a stat on the golf channel tonite where his Driving distance went from I think 286 in 2017, 295 in 2018 and 312 this year.
I liked his sawed off irons myself...crazy control and discipline.
I was most impressed with Phil's putting,I think he only 3 jacked 1 green all week.

Thrilled for Phil the Thrill, he is the most exciting player on tour IMO, how he is playing at such a high level, winning big and full field events just a few months shy of his 49th birthday and against kids 1/2 his age is truly Incredible . If his brain doesnβt get in the way , he has a very good chance at winning another major. He would already be the oldest player to do that.
When Phil is "on"...it's an awesome thing to watch. This final round was the best I can remember. Close to the final round dual he had with Stenson a couple years ago.
I really enjoyed the interview with Phil on the 18th green after he finished the tournament yesterday morning. He had time to sleep on the decision to postpone the finish until Monday. He admitted it was the right call by Mark Russell of the PGA and how he lives in a 'bubble' when he is in the hunt and trying to win a tournament. He said his 'bubble' doesn't allow him to take into account other opinions or options. I thought it was an introspective comment and had he realized this earlier in his career, may have allowed him to win at least two additional majors and tournaments.
Phil being Phil..........................still!
I watched it Sunday and clearly Phil wanted to keep playing, as would anyone who has a good round going with only a couple holes left to play. And he wasn't in the wrong to express that during the conversation with the tournament rules director. Casey would've been fine to continue on if he could actually see, but light was fading quickly and it was evident they weren't going to finish regardless before darkness. So he said that they might as well call it a day and finish up the following morning. And he wasn't in the wrong expressing his viewpoint, either.
But if you read the headlines of any number of sports articles that evening and Monday morning, you would've thought they'd nearly come to blows over their difference of opinion on the matter. And that clearly wasn't what was captured on television as they discussed it, or in the interview booth afterwards. I honestly didn't detect even the slightest hint of irritation from either of them.
Yet, Phil needlessly fell on the grenade Monday to turn a non story into a non story.
Everything's tabloid now. The days of distinguishing between the National Inquirer's, TMZ's, etc. of the world and the rest of the global media (including sports media) are so far gone it ain't even funny. They're all a bunch of click-craving shitweasels.
I was there Sunday.
sdandrea1 I don't know...Azzwipes are pretty bad, too...
