  • BMW Championship - Final Fed Ex Cup Qualifying - Spoiler Alert

ode He can still play in the silly season, no? Am I missing something?

And the tour ain't gonna do squat to Jordan! Lol

It's my understanding the Fed Ex Championship wraps up the 2017-2018 season with the $10M bonus the cherry on top. The silly season starts the 2018-2019 tournament year.

One of the articles I read about Spieth's dilemna is everything fell in to place so he would meet the minimum appearance requirement (Ryder Cup, first Fed Ex elimination events, etc.) except for having one shitty round Friday (a +1 71) that bumped him out of the top 30. And now he's at the mercy of Mother Nature in the morning to have an opportunity to play his way back in. Jordan is Chairman of the Tour Players Advisory Committee so he's not going to ask for an exception. He could have received an automatic exemption by appearing in just one new tournament he hadn't played in the previous 4 years. Just one. I REALLY like Jordan but is he a little bit snooty about which tournaments he plays? He just had to enter ONE new tournament and given that site a 'name' bump and the fans in that region a chance to see him.

Maybe we will see more top players enter events during the silly season. It gives them a jump on money earned, Fed Ex points, and an auto exemption from the mandatory 25 events by the end of the year.

ode The Season ends with the Tour Championship. The new season 18-19 (wrap around) begins in October)

Gotta be honest, seems really silly. That said, fine him and suspend him.....I want max pain imparted, cuz that will really help the tour when he agrees to play in 3 Podunk events to meet his suspension, lol....
"C'mon Jordan"

Rickochet So what is the fine if he gets one?

I've read several sources that reported his problem earlier today and not one mentioned the amount of the fine. No one has ever breached the rule since it was implemented 2 years ago among the couple of hundred players it would have applied to.

The Euros have had a similar rule in place for a lot longer. Their players association threatened some heavy stuff like not being eligible for the Ryder Cup team if you didn't have the minimum appearances in their own events. The US PGA Tour lost some Euro entrants during our seasons because they had to stay in the homeland to get in their obligations.

So much for being an independent contractor!

mikeintopeka I just don't see this rule being beneficial in many ways, you've pointed out a few reasons why.....the other will be the slap on the wrist he gets if the scenario plays out. Not like he thumbed his nose at the system, but he was putting all his eggs in a basket. Guess they are not independent contractors!

I can't imagine that the PGA makes a new rule and when the first offender breaks the rule they don't do something about it. Spieth screwed up. All he had to do was one more stinkin' tournament.

A nice alternative would.be to offer a plea deal, play 3 Podunk stops.next year or face max pain! Or have the commish spank him in public.

      Both might like it. 😜

I don't think a fine is going to be a problem for Jordan but a bigger impact would be a short term suspension. Anyone else see the irony in a penalty suspending you from the Tour for a period of time so you can't enter any events because the penalty is for not playing in enough events?

Regardless, I have a feeling Spieth is doing some tossing and turning in bed tonight.

"If he fails to qualify and comes up short, it is unclear what would happen. No player has violated the policy, but the tour's regulations stipulate that he could receive a major fine (believed to be $20,000) or a suspension."

      per ESPN report

Ok, I'm saying slap on wrist, ie fine or some sort of pathway to make up for it next year based on circumstances. But I want to reiterate, he should be tared and feathered before the opening tee shots at the 3 events he should be suspended at, with his patent "c'mon Jordan", blared over the intercom, whilst tar and feather.

Par4QC - Golf Magazine is reporting the same thing.

I know Jordan played in Australia in November as their Open's defending champ. It is reported his appearance fee was $1M before he stepped on the first tee. That makes a $20k fine a small cost of doing business and chump change for him. I can't find info on any other non-sanctioned appearances he made that were concurrent with PGA Tour events...not that big of a deal at this point.

...and they're off using tee times for the front and back 9 to try and get as many in as possible if they really do have a short window before rain is forecasted again this afternoon.

Is there any TV coverage this morning?

My tv program directory shows the Golf Channel picking it up at 9a (Central). (Golf Channel now running a banner on the Morning Drive confirming this.)

Jordan has not started the way he needs to get inside the Top 30. He's plus 1 after his first 3 holes starting on the back nine. Time to shift it into gear Jordan!

Lady on GC just said TV coverage at 10. 🙁 I don't understand. They are showing live coverage on the practice tee. Why can't they show live coverage on the course? Surely Johnny M has taken a big crap by now.
