Perez hasn't won anything of significance. Thus the media doesn't find his past remotely interesting.
Reed won, to the sports writers' demise, as they were obviously rooting/expecting for bigger/better stories to write about in hopes/expectations that Rory, Rickie or Jordan would prevail. When they didn't - they had no story to write about, other than to rerun their regurgitated stories from several years ago about Patrick's past.
The majority of people who have commented on these articles the past week (from what I have read) have come to that same conclusion, questioning why they chose to do that... questioning the credibility of their editorial departments.
I think it's painfully obvious as to why they did it. They're not journalists. They're bloggers who've been hired by the golf rags, then ordained as "journalists" to sensationalize a story, even if it doesn't meet the age-old standards of journalism ethics that they used to honor.
They needed a story, plain and simple. Because they had no story prepared for Patrick Reed winning the 2018 Masters, and opted for a slanderous op-ed instead of doing their jobs. They should all be held accountable, because their "shit" is obviously "shit" and is no longer worth reading. Unless you're into the TMZ's of the world.
This wasn't sports writing. This was a witch-hunt.
