You completely misunderstand. I read the article only because I'm informed. I follow (most) sports. And when articles occur by "alleged" accomplished sports writers that I feel misrepresent the truth, or attempt to cast a biased narrative based on what I've witnessed and researched myself, then I feel it's important to call the media out.
Our media isn't immune from criticism and alleged bias or agendas. As much as there "pretends" to be a need within all forms of media (including non-sports) to report the news they cover (which is different from opinion), there is likewise an obligation to be forthright, unbiased and honest in their coverage.
Truly independent thinkers look at these two instances and sense an overwhelming overreach by the media to create a non-story, much of which is often times based on agendas and subsequently mere allegations vs factual evidence to create sensationalism.
Again, it's below the standard that the general public should accept. You and I can have our biases. People in the media, by virtue of their profession, aren't entitled that same luxury, or shouldn't be anyway. But sadly that standard has gone.
It's why people are so distrustful of "the news" today.
Again, this goes back to the "informed" vs the "uninformed", and is often separated by what is fact and what are perceived as facts, but are basically opinions.
The media should be held to a much higher standard than that.
