I never heard of an off by the NFL to settle. And why would you settle if you are innocent anyway?

They did not like the coach nor the quarterback because these guys push the envelop of staying within the rules of the game too far. And too many times.

They all push the rules. The difference is they all don't win as much as the Patriots. Getting you ass kicked year in year out causes jealousy.

We know tampering with footballs is an equipment violation punishable by a fine. So, let's use your 'long time coming' reason for the draconian punishment (fine, draft picks, 4 games suspension for Brady).

The Vikings were caught warming the footballs on the sideline which is considered tamper with footballs (a no no). What was their punishment? A letter telling them not to do that anymore.

And remember when Brett Favre didn't hand over his phone for sending a dick pic to a woman? Did he get suspended? No just a fine. Even Judge Denny Chin said that Brady's punishment was draconian, but ruled Goodell has the power to issue draconian punishments.

So, your 'long time coming' argument may hold water with the Patriots as an organization because of Spygate etc.. But, Brady has never had any issues before. Why the draconian punishment for him?

This was the issue with Berman and Katzmann. Just because you have the power doesn't mean you can act with impunity and disregard precedent and fairness.

Favre did the same thing Brady did (refuse to hand over his phone) yet was only fined. The Vikings did what the Patriots were accused of (tampering with footballs) and were given a warning. So why is Brady (a first time offender) treated like an habitual offender when Favre and the Vikings were not?

Judge Berman was correct in calling Goodell's brand of justice cowboy justice. And it's amazing that Goodell would go so far with Brady and not with some of the other cases like domestic abuse.

Anyone thinking tampering with footballs as a worse offense than domestic abuse is an idiot. And this is what Goodell's decisions suggest. There is no continuity with him. He's all over the map. Therefore one could deduce that Goodell is an idiot.

Sometimes idiots win in court and this may be another case. Doesn't make it right though.

We all break the speed limit on the roadway at one time or the other and sometimes unintentionally and sometimes with very poor excuse, regardless.
Then why some got speeding ticket and some seldom do ?

Getting caught in the "grey area" is one thing, Lie about it and try to deny the wrong doing is totally another issue. Brady is being punished by not cooperating with the hands which feed him and tried to bite it.
In other words, got caught reckless driving is punishable by fine and maybe a light jail time with probation, but if one decided to go to the Court and fought the case with false pretension and presenting false evidence ( or erased the material evidence ), one could lose the traffic case and also punishable for lying under oath.

It's never too funny watching these public figures trying to get out of a jam with evidence arrows pointing all over their faces. "no I never inhaled", "no, I never have sex with this woman......Ms......"
"Senators, what dose it matter now ? trying to prove that I did not do my job right, let's drop the hearing and moving on to the future ...leave me alone "

Sadness is, we the people allowed this to happen over and over again.

If I were residing over the hearing of the Brady case, I would have given heavier sentence instead of upheld the original punishment. How's barred from the entire 2016 season plus monetary punishment ?

Ever wonder why the NFL didn't release their findings from last year regarding testing the football pressure at random games? Could it be that the Ideal Gas Law disproved their findings by the pseudoscience company they hired?

This case is full of more holes than swiss cheese. It would never and didn't stand up in court. It only stood up on appeal because of the absolute power given to Goodell in the CBA. And even that was a split decision.

The question is not why the team was punished, the question should be whether it should have gone to the Court in the first place.
You are so full of yourself by ignoring the facts of life. And you should not believe everything you read, if you don't know that, perhaps you should.
Observe what's happening, not just over your head but farther out. I realized there are things could not be taught if either the subject refused to learn or not capable of learning.
There should never had been a case to go to the Court, period. A waste of tax payer's money and time.

Kids got caught with their hands in the cookie jar crying they are not the only one whom dipped their hands in the jar thus they should not be punished. While in the meantime kicking the broken cookies under the table to hide it .

This country's moral standard had gone backward maybe that's the only way to be competitive for survival. However, it should not be the base of the excuse for what happened.

The real question is had Chris Mortenson not mis-reported what he was told by an NFL person that night we'd never be where we are. Courts are where disputes are settled. This is an arbitration / labor law case.

Take the time to read Sally Jenkins article in the Washington post then you won't sound so naïve about this case.

here is one of many links to talk of possible settlement offers made. Also the judges you favor rulings also urged Brady and Goodell to settle out of court. Seems naïve of you this late in the game to claim to not have knowledge of these events. Then for you to still hold onto the Ideal Gas Law when it has been demonstrated to not be applicable in this case. Why isn't the Ideal Gas Law being used as a defense?

Also we can not know if the equipment employees obtained another set of phones to cover-up the trail of evidence. Without Brady's phone we may never khow.

Yes Berman asked the two sides to come to an agreement. Many judges do that. No offer was ever made as far as I know by the NFL. And Brady was never going to accept a suspension. As for Jastremsk and McNally's phones. They were not personal phones, they were Patriot issued phones. So now you're suggesting a conspiracy by Kraft to switch out their phones? Ridiculous.

The Ideal Gas Law is relevant to explain the football pressure and was used as the defense in the original hearing with Goodell. You don't find it interesting that the NFL never released their findings on the Ideal Gas Law this past season? Obviously we are well beyond that now. Again, fairness and precedent were absent in Goodell's punishment with Brady. But this is the same idiot that initially gave Ray Rice a 4 game suspension for knocking out his wife that was caught on tape. And then this idiot judge, jury and executioner interviewed the perpetrator (Rice) and the victim (his wife) at the same time.

This was a case that was started by an ESPN reporter reporting bogus information given to him the night of the Colts game by an ex Jets exec, now an NFL exec. Once the erroneous 'cheating' train had left the station there was no slowing it down.

This was nothing more than a witch hunt that got out of control by an incompetent commissioner. Railroading the face of your league was a real 'smaht' move. Luckily for the League it's as popular as it is. Things do change however.

The concussion issue will be the downfall of the NFL. It may take awhile and probably not in my lifetime, but this is a problem not going away.

Not everyone will agree with all that's under the Sun, and that's the beauty of this world ( at least where I live ).
However, the information express freeways we are experiencing today does not mean we could make a better decision or understanding with the bombardment of information.
Take in the information from all corners and understand the motive of the source as we all know even numbers could be twisted to represent very different view. Make your best judgement.

I dislike the Patriots and Brady not because of what they had done ( proven or not ), I despise them because they did not own their action and treat others like they are stupid. They had lost my respect for them for this lifetime.

You seemed to like to gather information on all kind of subject, which is good, but like I told my clients - information is rampant these days, only the smart ones could see through the smoke screen.

I'll repeat again, the right decision does not need to be agreed by the majority; as proven in history, human beings were easily sweep to one side or the other, even with the assumed intelligent ones could not avoid it.

Disagreement is common and very okay. I often disagree with my best of friends and family members but that does not change our relationship and the respect for each other. Trying hard to prove a point to no end will lose every time.

Put me in the more informed camp. I agree some times not knowing all the details makes little difference and you can get away with being ignorant (lack of knowledge) of the facts. In this case however knowing more makes all the difference. And there is a huge amount of smoke screen (red herring / misinformation) stuff out there on this case.

Also, knowing more information about what teams have done would show you the Patriots really aren't any different than the other teams in the NFL. Except they win a lot more.

More information sometimes might be confusing, unless you are a super computer (8th Generation ? ) to sort out and analyze the massive information out there.

Patriot is no difference than some of the other teams, why do you think the game needs multiple game balls prepared by both team for the referees to choose ? I said, it's the way they handle it after they had gotten caught, not just because they were the one whom got caught cheating.
The apparent image of arrogance was a big put off. They don't fit in the "hero", "idol" category.

When you get caught, you can't use the excuse of why me, everyone else is doing the similar thing. Whomever was handling the public relationship and their legal advisory should be canned. This dare you to prove it attitude is childish.

To me it indicates a fight that is not worth the cost or repercussions of fighting it.

Robert Kraft, or any NFL owner knows when there is no real upside. What's done is done.

The more likely scenario was Kraft thought by accepting the fine and draft picks Goodell would go easy on Brady. His assumption was wrong as we now know, and he then strongly regretted that decision in a harshly worded response towards Goodell. Once again you're lack of knowledge in this case is glaring.

To me, for whatever reason he destroyed his cellphone, there will ALWAYS be doubt in his role in this. To me, it's over, I will always give Brady the credit of being one of the top NFL QB's, but I wouldn't trust him as far as I could throw him.

Not to start this up again, but if Brady is the quality QB player everyone says he is, I find it difficult to accept that he could not tell a difference when the ball was in his hands. It is often said that very good golfers (like TW and PM, etc.) can tell a one-half swing weight difference in a club. If that is so, and I think it is, why can't a very good QB, who throws a football for a living, not notice less air in the ball?
