disagree in part. In the final round and closing holes maybe cut them some slack, but they were already warned.
Slow play on the PGA, LPGA ( is the worst) tours is epidemic with 5-6 hour rounds common. There is no reason that it should take 2/3 somes of pros more than 4 hours unless conditions are extreme. All it does is validates to recreational golfers that slow play and slow routines are ok, cuz the pros do it. likewise there is no reason why a round of golf should take more than 4:30 with weekend warriors, even if they shoot 120, yet 5 plus hour rounds are standard fare at many courses.
There should be consistency in the application of the on the clock rule. Euro tour does a better job, but we get it this side too , every week but don't always hear about it. When is the last time a player was penalized on the PGA tour for slow play? probably that amateur at the Masters 5-6 years ago. It will be interesting to see the reaction and outcome in the Euro tour later this year in which they are implementing an actual shot clock with timer. I hope it goes over well as I would love to see something like this implemented on all the tours to speed things up
