Precisely, why would any young person choose to play golf if they are going to be hassled about what they wear. I mean for Christ's sake we aren't even talking about jorts, ripped jeans, tank tops, half shirts, or flip flops. People.get hassled for wearing perfectly acceptable clothing, like a Hawaiian themed shirt with a collar. Good lord I have to lol. And sometimes it's the color of the shirt (orange) or the shape of the brim (flat) ...hell what happens when they combo all the above. Ugh!

Exactly.

As long as they’re replacing their divots, fixing their ball marks on the greens, raking the occasional bunker they might have to play from, and don’t hold me up if I’m playing behind them....

I couldn’t care less what they’re wearing.

In fact - the people who “dress” the part don’t seem overly concerned these days about doing the “good golfer” things regarding etiquette. Why should I judge a golfer wearing denim shorts or an tucked shirt in a different light?

PA-PLAYA The same reason they hounded us about folding t-shirts, socks, underwear, etc. in basic training. If you can't get the little stuff right, then how are you ever gonna get the important stuff. Said another way, if you don't care enough about some things, then how do we know you care about other, more important, things?

If you want to wear a shirt out that is DESIGNED to be worn out, I say bring it on, I personally think shirts that aren't designed to be worn out look terrible.

I will suggest that if you think taking golf to extremes, where anything goes will grow the game, I think you need to rethink that. Keep in mind most people change as time passes. As for golf, I can say that if you can't respect the course dress code, you more than likely can't respect the course rules. Again the surveys and studies done by various golf groups stands by the fact that after college till about mid 40s play less golf on a frequent basis, they have families, careers and not a lot of time. Also if you note that many clubs have memberships that for 50 and under pay less than those over 50, the reason is that 50 and under find pay as you go a more economical way to go. ('Translate that to how many rounds they can play each month, how much time, how much money'.)

Respect the course, respect the club rules, respect the game...Lets go...

        Martee

        Agreed, Martee.

But it seems some of us might take issue if a golf course or golf club relaxes its' dress code policy in hopes of attracting younger players.

I don't have an issue with that. Do you?

          PA-PLAYA

Relaxed Clothing alone might not be something to attract people to the game but relaxing the rules for clothing, relaxing and simplyfying the rules if the game, relaxing stuffy club rules all might make the game look more fun and less stodgy and elitest. ( which it is viewed as)

those videos of Spieth, Kaufman, Thomas etc playing golf in bare feet, shirtless, drinking beers, music playing now that looked fun and could attract young people to the game.

I get it that golf is supposed to be a game of decorum and that might be extreme , who knows , but maybe they have to look at things if they want to make it more fun. I mentioned top golf and the enormous success it has had....there is a reason for that.....innovative, fun, exciting, unique, loud, .....I do think we will see a top golf meets the real golf course model in the not too distant future. Scheduling it and separating it from the " old fashioned serious" golfer would be a must, but they do that now in a sense with tournament play where i have seen some crazy shit happen

Why can't golf courses do what the office environment has done ala casual Fridays, etc.? Have a casual golf day--and wear what you want then. Relax the rules for one day a week and see what happens. ( Although I hear that office casual days are now pase')

Ringoblack - One of our munis does this late Sunday afternoons after 3:00 until close. Come out as you are, bring the whole family, play until dark, and pay a deeply discounted rate. We've got to get the kids started playing the game and nothing like Dad and/or Mom introducing them to it surrounded by other families.

Screw the old guys pissed off about slow play on Sunday afternoons. They can play with the FOGs (effing old guys) groups during the week when the parents are at work and the kids are in school.

Trust me, those old guys playing weekday mornings aren't the fast groups.

PA-PLAYA .... it's not like Fowler looked like he'd just gotten out of an AA meeting and stumbled upon the first tee, barely making his freakin tee time.

              You mean like John Daly?

Par4QC They aren't in a damn fashion show, except for the fags that wanna make it that, it's golf. Be comfy.

So, the rules are should be different for the PGA in contrast to the LPGA? LOL I'd like to see the ladies be comfy. I couldn't care less what Ricky Fowler wears. Now, Michelle Wie, Sandra Gal, etc...? Different story.

mikeintopeka The NFL has made changes (individual expression is verboten except during the National Anthem, protect the players - especially quarterbacks- from injuries, less kick-off returns, etc. and how's that working out today? Answer: It is now referenced as the NO FUN LEAGUE, viewership dropped 8% last year and 10% on top of that this year. And, I agree with most of the changes.

Bullshit. There's been tons of fun this year with end zone celebrations. The viewership is simply down due to live streaming. Get your stats right and your attributions as well.

                  professor

The NFL has lost the casual viewer, just as golf did when Tiger left.

That doesn't mean their ratings aren't good. Just down from where they usually are. And it's not all due to cord-cutting.

You can get a ticket to the Eagles vs Falcons game tomorrow for $150 via stub hub, as of yesterday evening.

Second round playoff game. 150 bucks. Two popular teams. That ain't got anything to do with "streaming."

professor - OK, if you think the reason viewership is down because of live streaming, I don't know what to say except you are clueless. Live streaming is a small dent in the loss of fans watching televised games.

So if all the viewers are still there but now paying for live streams, why are adjustments already being made to advertisers under the viewership guarantees?

Here's one of scores of articles I can post about the ratings decline. The FAKE news CNN attributes the loss of viewers is due to injuries to key players (I guess first time in history of televised NFL) HaHaHaHa. This is golden. http://money.cnn.com/2017/12/14/media/nfl-ratings-sunday-night-football/index.html

It's not just streaming viewers and cord cutting.

As of yesterday evening - I could've gotten two tickets to the Eagles game for 300 bucks total. Lots of games televised this season showed a lot of empty seats.

People who refuse to believe it are not paying attention. Interest is definitely down. Those two playoff tickets for 300 bucks would've easily cost over a grand two seasons ago.

That's hard to quantify because two seasons ago, the Eagles and Falcons were sitting at home watching the playoffs.

                        Alright, whatever you say, Jeremy.

Trust that the tickets were cheap last night on stub hub. Or don't.

                        Whatever.

It's all relative. I wouldn't call $150 a ticket to go watch some overpaid whiners "cheap".

                          puttnfool

I paid 100 bucks (scalped ticket) to go watch the Falcons vs Cowboys back in 1990 in Atlanta, while I was stationed at Ft. Benning.

That was almost 28 years ago.
