I've never played with hickory, but just out of curiosity, are you playing with solid, 2 piece modern golf balls,
or have you found some old wound balatas? I've heard that the modern balls would stress the wooden
shafts and cause them to break eventually......

The hickory players I know all use modern soft balls. Wilson Duo is popular. Some of those guys use new replica clubs and some use originals with no problems.

sdandrea1 - dark plaid. I haven't worn them many times but they are a size 32. You look a lot smaller in your pictures. Maybe future pix shouldn't be taken with 'big guys', no? 😉

sdandrea1 Steve, the hickory clubs are in my shed and we had snow last night so I didn't spend a lot of time going through them all. But here's what I saw: A couple of putters, several mashies, mid irons 3, 4, 9, 10. I know I have a couple more someplace but we just moved and everything is still packed away. If you can wait a couple days I can get you better info. All the shafts are straight although the heads do have rust on them. They are hand forged steel after all: )

No rush Gary. We're busy here in VA for Christmas then head back to FL on Wednesday. Take your time. Thanks!

No ho is on the modern clubs. I have zero hickory play sets, and I want to compete in a few events. That's my story. 😉

Another swing many did in that era was the LCT (Lagging Clubhead Takeaway). Where you drag the handle back before the club head. Harry Vardon did it as well as Bobby Jones.
