What do you guys think about graphite putter shafts? While looking on Valuegolfs website at the Hypersonic driver shaft, I noticed a SK Fiber pro 115 gram graphite putter shaft. I’m looking at removing the putter shaft from a Scotty Studio Stainless because I don’t want to cut the original shaft. I was looking at the KBS CT Tour shafts as well.

Any thoughts? My putter shaft concern is putting a Yugo transmission in a Lambo.

No way. Been there, done that once. There isn't enough advantage to be gained in a putter, IMO. I have a putter that I think the manufacturer forgot to tip the steel shaft so that it actually had a little snap in the tip. I couldn't wait to fix that thing.

Typhoon I bought an SK Fiber Pro 115 last month and installed it in an old C-Ray center shafted putter. It worked out fine. I wanted to try a graphite shafted putter & the SKF shaft made for a cheap experiment. These shafts are also labeled as wedge shafts. I might give that a try next - I’m still using steel shafts in my wedges.

backinit it actually had a little snap in the tip

      😲So, you swing your putter?

This is worse than driver shafts....the 'need' for an expensive putter shaft. I've used both, steel & graphite.
jmo, but as long as the weight is equal, cheap vs. expensive-steel vs. graphite won't make much diff.
There may be a point where the graphite is more weighted at the tip though. And that will make a different feel.

Then again, I don't build putters. For good reasons.

I’m not looking for a $400 LA Golf putter shaft. I’m looking at the $15 SK Fiber vs. the KBS CT Tour at $40-50. The SK fiber is graphite and 115 grams at 36” the KBS a little more with 124 grams at 38”.

I’d be more than happy with the SKFiber price but it’s not like I have to refinance the house for the KBS. Just wondering about performance.

Only reason I’m looking for a putter shaft is because I don’t want to cut the one in the Cameron, I’d rather keep the original and put a replacement in it.

I put an old Mercury graphite shaft in one of my Evnroll putters, works great better feel than steel!IMO
Not a big deal to change them and experiment with different shafts.
Stiffer the better more or less.

Honestly I didn’t detect any particular difference in feel or performance in my experiment. The price of the ‘name brand’ graphite putter shafts seem outrageous to me for what performance improvements that might offer - if any. The SK Fiber shaft is an inexpensive way to try one out though.

Par4QC If you were putting through a fringe you would easily detect it. It must have been built Friday afternoon.

d5n03 I bought one of the SK Fiber putter shafts earlier this year for a putter restoration project. Unfortunately, still haven’t gotten around to the restoration so my post is essentially useless 🤦‍♂️

Typhoon the one I ordered came.in at ~ 118....ymmv....was gonna use as a wedge shaft as an experiment but never got around to it. You could just use shrink tube on a regular graphite iron shaft if black is the goal......or permanent marker 🙃😉

I'm currently using an old PING titanium prototype driver shaft cut down for putter use.

I dunno.......might feel weird. I guess as long as you can get the heft where you want it, there's no real disadvantage. Does it actually weigh 115g?

d5n03 The only thing I think about, and Backinit noticed it with the shaft he tried is the torque. The SKFiber was something like 5.1 or 5.4. For comparison I couldn’t find anything on the KBS or even a crazy expensive LA Golf putter shaft. You just read where they say “low torque”…. But in the world of putters what is that exactly.

Typhoon I have 6 versions of the Arnold Palmer AP30 putter that I have been using for decades. I put graphite in three of them and love it.

ode hahahahaha. Or the all time funniest comment by putter designers or makers... "immediate ball roll"

                      SMT "immediate ball roll"

Every slow motion vid of a putt I've seen shows the ball in the air and skidding a bit when it lands before it starts to roll. Every one.
