It makes sense that he didn't know about her; saw her, but nothing registered, just someone lying on the floor. And his death can be directly attributed to her not being around to help him.
She must have just keeled over while fetching his heart pills(assuming they were his, not hers)...that were said to be scattered on the floor where she was found.
I still find it curious about the 2 dogs. A week(at least) no food/water/care of any type....and no barking to arouse suspicion from neighbors??? The 3rd dog was dead. Why were the other 2 not? They had food from some source. 👍
