johnnydoom Yipsy Yes. Pack rats carry the disease and deaths from it happen occasionally in New Mexico. It usually happens because people dig up their nest areas looking for the pine nuts they squirrel away. Although I’d doubt that his wife was foraging. She probably cleaned up behind one that nested in the house or car.
