Maltby New Irons
bigshank I talked my dad, who is 76 years old, into purchasing his final new set of irons from golfworks. We bought the club pak and they custom assembled for free. STi2 Kuro Kage A flex. They are gorgeous and he absolutely loves them. I was proud, I have been playing component made clubs since I was 18. Golfworks irons take a back seat to noone. There Drivers? I haven't had the best of luck with the few that I have tried.
I’m pumped to get them in my hands. I ordered the club pack 5-gw. They are building them and bending them for me. Depending on how I like that score lt shaft they offer will determine if I use a different shaft in the black forged set. I like the looks of that black finish
It's been years since I even looked at any component irons, but this thread got me curious about the Maltby offerings. Those TS-3 look fabulous! Pretty pricey, though, but I've been going back looking at reviews of TS-2, STi2, KE4 Max, etc., including the Popeye thread on GolfWRX. Dang this site!

It’s just money and we can’t take it with us when we go. Besides I figure you buy maltbys 3 latest forged versions for the price of one set of forged Titleist irons. Fuck it I’m all in for two sets. I still got my old set if I don’t perform as well. No loss required. I got a feeling these sets will go toe to toe with anything. The IMs and the TE forged+ black for me. That’s enough irons to outlast me. Maybe my grandson can use em when I’m done with them

Taki27 hard to give anything in depth as I only had a cup of coffee with the Tour and sold it .... And demo'd the Max as @Nat had one and sent it to me. Max has a slightly bigger footprint, was more forgiving, and had better feel/slightly more muted but also more solid all over (on mishits performed and felt better). IMO a noticeable improvement overall. Also the fins on the crown were more subdued with the Max and looks better, but the shinier metal on the front of the crown was a bit more.distracting then that of the Tour, although this was minor and after playing it a few times a non factor!

@sdandrea1
It eventually got that way but there was a fun time in the early to mid 2000s when the head sizes were growing to 300-350-400cc and first got capped at 460cc. Each successive model seemed to be a little longer and/or more forgiving. You're right about shafts. I probably dismissed some heads as duds before I figured out what shaft profiles and weights worked best and how BBGM impacted shaft flex, etc. It was fun experimenting, though!
I remember building a Golfsmith TI 260 driver with a graffaloy pro launch burgundy shaft. That was a game changer for me. The stock shafts in all the big name drivers were whippy crap. I was probably coming from a great big Bertha or something like that. I seemed to remember a bunch of other builds that were good too. Integra heads were pretty good for me and of course SMT I enjoyed a few of those. I really liked the UST shafts and Aldila NV 65 shafts. Fun times
